A new queen is entering the day time talk show arena, Queen Latifah that is. The charismatic rapper, singer, and actress will be debuting The Queen Latifah Show to fans this fall. Queen Latifah was in Toronto this week to discuss the new show and even though very few new talk shows have made it in recent times she says she knew what she was getting into. Queen Latifah says she bided her time waiting for the right moment to launch this new show.
“We knew that there would be a big rush into the field. Some [shows] survived and thrived and some did not. It was better for me to not be part of the wild bunch and let everything calm down a bit. Let the audience decide what they wanted more of and make a little room for me”
This isn’t Queen Latifah’s first time on the small screen. In the 1990’s she starred on the sitcom living single and had a recurring role on Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, but this will be her much anticipated return and a new role for her already expansive resume. While The Queen Latifah Show is still figuring itself out in time for the fall premiere, she says you shouldn’t expect the same tired talk show format. She says the biggest difference between her show and other shows is her own charismatic personality.
“I think the most important thing about the Queen Latifah Show is Queen Latifah and me bringing my perspective and style to it. I watch TV. I am a TV watcher. I come from a TV watching family. I watch a lot of the talk shows. I watch Ellen. I watch Maury. I watch Fallon. I watch TV. I know what I like. I want to create things that I like… I tend to live real life and I like to see some of that reflected on television. In my life experience, I relate to a lot of different kinds of people. If I can get into and entertained by it, then there are a lot of other people who can be entertained by it. I think the most important thing is for me to feel good about what we are doing.”
While there is a celebrity interview element to the all-new Queen Latifah Show, she says it’s not just about A-List celebrities. She says her show isn’t just about bringing the a-list celebrities but also everyday people.

“It would be great to have whoever your favourite celebrity is or the President, but for me the dream guest is everyday people who are amazing and who are dream guests day in and day out. Regular people doing amazing and extraordinary things, that you don’t know who make great television and are surprisingly and shockingly entertaining. We talk about a lot of issues. It’s not really based upon bringing super big celebrities on there. Obviously, we would love to have top entertainers and celebrities, but I want it to be a place where they want to come and just chill, open up and be real. It’s more about the tone of the interview than who it is.”
