Top Modern-Era Actors And Actresses Who Have Never Won An Oscar

Most people would agree that it’s not surprising that neither Arnold Schwarzenegger nor Will Ferrell have ever won (or even been nominated) for an Academy Award, but there are a surprising amount of great A-list celebrities who haven’t taken home a golden statuette either.  We’re taking a look at them today.

Tom Cruise:  Ok, for those of you who know him as only the Scientologist who jumped on Oprah’s couch while professing his love for Katie Holmes and stars in the Mission Impossible movies you’ve clearly missed some of his best work.  He’s been nominated 3 times for an Oscar, with the latest being in 2000 for Magnolia.   His best role was in 1990′s Born on the Fourth of July but he lost out on that one to  Daniel Day-Lewis who won his first statue that year for My Left Foot.

Johnny Depp:  Darrr, say it isn’t so.  One of the best actors in Hollywood today has been nominated 3 times, but has yet to take home the prize.  A favourite of movie fans around the world, it’s only a matter of time before he gets to give a thank-you speech on Tinsel Town’s biggest night.

Glenn Close:  It’s hard to believe that Glen Close has yet to win an Academy Award.  She’s been nominated 6 times in total (three of which came in successive years in the 80′s), with the last nod coming in 2012 for Albert Nobbs.  At 65 she’s started to slow down when it comes to her movie career, but with a few more good roles she still has a shot.

Gary Oldman:  It seems like this master of characters should have received multiple awards by now, but he’s only ever been nominated once in his career.  And that didn’t come until 2012 for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.  It’s hard being a character actor though, as they tend to get overlooked.

Julianne Moore:  Like Glenn Close Julianne Moore has been nominated several times (in her case 4).  In 2003 she was nominated twice (once for Best Actress in Far From Heaven and once for Best Supporting Actress in the Hours), only to lose both times.

Leonardo DiCaprio – Leo’s been nominated 3 times (including What’s Eating Gilbert Grape early in his career), and a lot of people were saying he was snubbed for not getting nominated this year for Django Unchained.  Still this actor has a long career ahead of him, and he’d bound to get an award before too long.

There are definitely other actors and actresses we could have added to the list.  Who would you have added?
