Want some notice-me nails for this steamy summer season? We break down some of the biggest trends for manicures — get your digits set for some mega attention.
Take it to the tropics
To go with the heat waves, give your nails a bold, tropical look by rocking shades of green (the colour of the year), orange and yellow. Tip: Some neon nail polishes will pop even more if you start with a coat of white nail polish as a base. Try: Ceramic Nail Glaze in Watermelon Cooler and China Glaze Texture in In the Rough.
Dot marks the spot
Even if you don’t have the steady hand or artistic flair for doing your own nail art, one of the simplest (and sweetest) nail art looks–polka dots–is very easy to do. Try to Bourjois Paris dotting tool (just do one signature nail if you want to be subtle). No dotting tool? You can easily make one using a pin and a cork from a bottle of wine or a small piece of styrofoam as the handle.
With confetti-like pieces in the polish, Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots makes nail art a snap–just apply as polish and you get a charming speckled design. Or try one of L’Oreal’s dot topcoats (out late summer) to convert any solid-coloured polish into a confetti-ed look.

Try it with texture
More easily wearable (and less labour-intensive) than the caviar manicure, OPI’s textured Liquid Sand polishes go on and dry with a subtle pebbly feel that adds a mysterious depth to the look. We’re partial to Jinx (a orangey colour with gold glitter) and Tiffany Case (a shimmery turquoise).
Metallics are super reflective when you use a nail sticker such as Essie Nail Slicks, or with CND’s VinylLux. Also, don’t ditch the leftover nail stickers (they always comes with a few extra) — use them as accents for your next nail-art manicure.
