With spring just around the corner, we tapped this beloved celebrity manicurist for her tips on how to get our own tips ready for the seasons hottest nail trends.
Real Style: What are your favourite nail colours for Spring 2013?
Carla Kay: From the from Madison Ave Lane by Essie collection, I love Hip-Anema which is a bright poppy red, Maximillian Strasse Her which is a cool grey green, Avenue Maintain an oarisian blue, and Go Ginza a soft cherry pink nail polish.
RS: How do you see nail polish trends changing for this season?
CK: Bright and a combination of colours. I see many shocking oranges, reds, blues and white.
RS: Neutral nails were big for Spring. How should you pick which neutral shades look good on you?
CK: Try to match to your skin tone. If you are more olive stay away from yellow based neutral. If you are on the fair side go for sheer white or soft pink shades.
RS: How are we doing nail art in Spring 2013 to incorporate these more neutral shades?
CK: Essie has created beautiful nail stickers called Sleek Sticks. They are tasteful and fun. They have neutral ones with lace that are very elegant!

RS: Dark colours were also seen on the runway, is this something we should be wearing in our day to day life?
CK: I personally love dark shades all year round. I think it works for every season.
RS: How can we do an easy at home two tone manicure?
CK: Easiest way for two toned is to paint a shade of your choice. Then take an eye shadow applicator and cover it another color. Dab that the color on top of the nail to get almost an ombre effect or you could dab it to look like a French manicure.
RS: What are 3 nail products you think every woman should own?
CK: Apricot Cuticle oil by Essie, it’s in a small bottle so you can carry it in your bag, a soft grade file, and cuticle clippers.
