With the holiday season rapidly coming to a close, and the new year upon us, Real Style decided to take a look at the best beauty trends for the months ahead. If you have some spending cash left over after hosting cocktail parties, shopping for gifts and stocking up on Boxing Day, here are some suggestions for beauty ideas to look out for.
Happy New Year!
Nude nail polish: Due to the minimalist trend, which hit runways a couple seasons ago, nails in milky white, beige, and cream have quickly become a popular trend (both on the catwalk and on city streets!) For spring 2013, take a break from your usual French tips and try a neutral, understated nude polish- such as Laura Mercier Nail Lacquer in Organza ($18), butter LONDON in Tea with the Queen shade ($17), or Essie in Case Study ($9.99)
Neon/statement eyelids: While most ladies have a classic brown or black eye pencil in their cosmetic bags, you may want to try a more vibrant, exciting look for a night out (or even on a regular day to add warmth and depth to an everyday outfit). Spring 2013 runway shows featured electric blues, “floating” eyeliner which consists of a bright line in the middle of the eyelid, and vivid slashes of turquoise.
Bold lip colour: If you decide to keep your eye makeup basic (in sharp contrast to the trend above!), try to focus on lips instead with ruby red, burgundy, or a matte neon pink.
Emerald green: It’s been named Pantone’s colour of the year for the new year, and with any luck, this jewel-toned hue will have its moment in the spotlight in the next couple seasons. While emerald promises to be popular for wardrobe choices, it will also be a hit in the world of beauty, inspiring everything from nail colour to eyeshadow palettes. Only time will tell if women everywhere will be seen sporting emerald green lipstick- but then again, that might be taking the trend too far!
Sixties-inspired hair and beauty: With nude or pale pink lips, played-up doe eyes showcasing large fringed lashes and dark liner, and prominent eyebrows, the sixties-inspired face is set to be a huge statement. Inspired by the classically beautiful Audrey Hepburn, edgy 1960’s era model Twiggy, and the mod trend from that decade, pixie cut hairstyles, sleek Mad Men-esque udos, and beehives will also be popular.
