It’s that time of year again, fashion lovers. Spring 2013 Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris has come and gone, bringing with it many inspiring beauty trends for the season ahead. While the runways this week have displayed everything from feminine and floaty fabrics to menswear-inspired unisex designs, beauty trends indicate a rise in popularity for everything theatrical and edgy.
For fashionistas looking to make a statement, there was no shortage of bold up-dos, gothic-inspired eyeliner, and plenty of darker shades. Here is a closer look at haute couture designers’ usage of beauty on the catwalk, and what to expect in the months to come.
Victorian Gothic at Chanel: While Karl Lagerfeld’s designs themselves for 2013 were breathtaking, it was the beauty aspect of Chanel’s latest show which caught attention. With twisted, partially bunched updos showcasing wispy locks and black mesh eyelashes, models walked down the catwalk in all their Victorian glory. Hairstyles were accessorized with white and black feathers, and eyeliner was smeared while lips were left pale pink and understated.
Bedazzled Lips at Dior: Dior provided lip service with its 2013 collections- in the form of sequins, shimmer, and real Swarovski crystals. While such a bold look might not be a great look for the office, it certainly left a strong impression at Fashion Week. With warm-toned lipsticks in orange, pink, and red, all the sparkle and shine had a striking 3D effect (thanks to makeup artist Pat McGrath). Paired with pixie cuts and subtle cat-eye liner, bedazzled mouths were all the rage.
Green Eyes At Atelier Versace: At Versace, sleek pulled-back hairstyles and smooth high ponytails made an appearance on the runway, combined with bold black eyeliner and vivid green eyeshadow. With emerald green being Pantone’s colour of the year, this might quickly become a popular trend for 2013.
Winged Liner at Armani: In keeping with Armani Prive’s eastern-influenced theme for 2013 looks, makeup was exotic and dark at the fashion house’s show this week, models wore brick red lipstick, with brunette locks in updos and plenty of dark winged liner.
