Lady Gaga was criticized for gaining weight this week after photos of the singer performing in skin-revealing costumes in Amsterdam circulated online. The photo above is of Gaga last week at her Fame launch party in New York looking healthy but definitely more voluptuous than at the beginning of the summer. Lady Gaga admitted that she had, in fact, put on a substantial amount of weight when doing a radio interview with Elvis Duran. “I’m dieting right now, because I gained, like, 25 pounds,” Huffington Post quoted Gaga as telling Elvis. “And you know I really don’t feel bad about it, not even for a second. I have to be on such a strict diet constantly. It’s hard because it’s a quite vigorous show, so I tend to bulk up, get muscular, and I really don’t like that. So I’m trying to find a new balance.”

Lady Gaga hasn’t always had such a well-adjusted view of her own body. The songstress admitted at a conference called “It’s Our Turn” at a school in Los Angeles last February that she used to be bulimic. “I used to throw up all the time in high school. So I’m not that confident. I wanted to be a skinny little ballerina but I was a voluptuous little Italian girl whose dad had meatballs on the table every night,” she was quoted as saying to an audience of young girls by Jezebel. “Weight is still a struggle. Every video I’m in, every magazine cover, they stretch you – they make you perfect. It’s not real life … I’m gonna say this about girls: The dieting wars have got to stop. Everyone just knock it off. Because at the end of the day, it’s affecting kids your age. And it’s making girls sick.”

Even if Lady Gaga wants to lose a bit of weight, we hope she doesn’t get too hard on herself about it. We think the “Born This Way” singer is a good example of a star who accepts her unique beauty and doesn’t force herself into a mold. Stay healthy, Gaga!
