Everything You Need To Know About Canadian Music Week 2017
While our neighbours south of the border will be partying in the desert at Coachella, Toronto will be celebrating the 35th annual Canadian Music Week. This unique event puts a spotlight on the business of music by bringing Sound Recording, New Media and Broadcast together into a single week of celebrations. From April 18th-23rd, musicians and music lovers can enjoy performances, conferences and award ceremonies.

There are a number of artists and bands slated to perform during the week-long event. Some performances are separated into mini festivals hosted around the city. If you’re a fan of indie music, you may want to check out Indies with Indie88 at The Phoenix Concert Theatre. This particular festival will be headlined by Hollerado, and will also feature other musicians such as Dan Mangan and The Wooden Sky. Some other notable performers gracing the 6ix are Big Sean, Good Charlotte and Melissa Etheridge.
What makes Canadian Music Week a unique experience is the way it combines entertainment and education. Hosted at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, these summits range in topics from Digital Music to Live Touring.

While mainstream Canadian-born stars like Justin Bieber, Drake and The Weeknd have achieved global success, there are also many rising names in the local industry. The Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards have unique categories such as Casino/Specialty Venue and Recording Studio. Other award shows include the Live Music Awards, Canadian Radio Music Awards, The INDIES and the 2017 Rosalie Award, which is presented to a successful woman who is a trailblazer in the radio industry.
