Picturesque Places To Take Engagement Photos In Canada

For many newly engaged couples, engagement photos can be a visually compelling way to share the good news with family and friends. In the age of social media, a picture can truly tell a thousand words, and the only extra bit needed is a witty, wry caption. If you’re planning to propose to your partner on home soil, you’re certainly in luck- Canada is home to countless naturally beautiful and scenic locations. After all, these photos can tell a story and capture your personality as a couple. The possibilities are endless as you can take traditional route, or revisit meaningful places in your relationship. Here are some of our favourite picturesque places across the country to consider for any upcoming Spring/Summer 2017 engagement photoshoot.

Lighthouse Park, Vancouver BC

Located on the shores of West Vancouver, Lighthouse Park is said to be one of the most gorgeous parks in the city. Walk through the Valley of Giants, where the trail boasts acres of Douglas firs. This evergreen oasis also features bluffs with breathtaking views of the coastline. You can get creative with your shoot, and also explore the coves and beaches found in the park.

Muttart Conservatory, Edmonton AB

While some may mistakenly believe that Alberta is all oil rigs and farmland, the Muttart Conservatory is a botanical gem located in Edmonton. The conservatory features three pyramids with biomes which contain the year-round display. With different types of plants in each pyramid, you’re left to pick which pyramid suits you and your fiancé the best.

Graffiti Alley, Toronto ON

Most Torontonians would probably suggest Casa Loma or High Park for engagement photos, and they would certainly be correct. While both of those popular Toronto locations are coveted for engagement and wedding photography, there are also several lesser known spots in the big city. As  Toronto is known for standing out (and Toronto-based couples are certainly no different), we suggest taking a trip downtown for an edgy and slightly rebellious vibe. If you’re looking for a unique backdrop to your photos, try the graffiti alley in the Queen West area of the city. These bold displays of art will make for an eye-catching collection of photos, and can be a way for a creative and quirky duo to illustrate their unique story.

Old Quebec, Quebec City QC

This historic neighbourhood in Quebec City oozes European culture. This walled city will have you feeling like you’ve journeyed through time. It is rich with architectural treasures and European colonial heritage. The narrow cobblestone roads are a testament to the city’s history and are perfect for engagement photos. Remember an Old Quebec photo shoot wouldn’t be complete without a shot of Château Frontenac, which is a local landmark and can set the stage for a romantic Quebec setting.

Tangled Garden, Grand Pre NS

Found just outside of Halifax, this garden and labyrinth is a fairytale dream location. Tangled Garden boasts a three-acre herb and sculpture garden. In addition to being a working herb and fruit farm, the garden is also a Classical Seven-circuit, with clover and walls of flower. It’s a whimsical wonderland even Alice would approve of. While building a strong and realistic love story is certainly no Disney tale, perhaps this destination can be a walk in the park- or the garden, at least!
