For Canuck wine lovers who are searching for the perfect winter activity, the 2017 Niagara Icewine Festival just may be an event to add to your calendar. The 8th annual seasonal festival kicks off on January 13, and runs until January 29 at Niagara Falls.

The event launches with the Xerox Icewine Gala at the Fallsview Casino Resort, which involves Canadian wines, cuisine and ice sculptures on display. With a theme of Sugar and Spice, Everything Ice, this year’s gala event promises to be a luxurious occasion.

This year, participating wineries include St. Catharines, Ontario-based 13th Street Winery and Niagara-on-the-Lake-based Château des Charmes. Visitors have the option of buying a discovery pass for the festival, which offers access to wine tasting and food samplings at various wineries.

From self-guided tours along the Niagara wine route to culinary events, the Icewine Festival aims to satisfy taste buds. Along with the chances to sip local vino, guests can also attend an Icewine Dinner, which takes place on January 13. Presented by Chef Jamie Kennedy, this event includes a hotel package or a dinner only option.

Whether you want to escape on a romantic weekend or embark on a girlfriends’ getaway, the Icewine Festival just may be worth a visit. With the wintry Niagara Falls as the setting, the event certainly seems fitting for the all-Canadian connoisseur with a seasoned palate.
