FASHION NEWS: Christian Lacroix Back With Four New Lines

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Model Wearing Christian LacroixAfter suffering through bankruptcy last year, fashion house Christian Lacroix is getting back to business for 2010. Christian Lacroix is starting up four new lines this year, but not in women’s clothing.

Christian LaCroix’s CEO Nicolas Topiol told WWD the new lines are: women’s glasses and sunglasses, stationary, home textiles and decorative wood panels. They will be partnering up with a number of companies from around the world to ensure these new products are a success. He also said they are in talks to work on innerwear, children’s wear, and accessories.

As part of the restructuring, Christian Lacroix will be cut to just 12 employees to save further costs. They will also be shutting down the Lacroix boutiques and auctioning off the store furnishings. They will continue working on their current fragrance, menswear and bridal lines during this transition period.

The four new lines should be in stores within the next 12 months.

Golden Globes Best And Worst Dressed Lists

Monday, January 18th, 2010

golden-globe-dresses

Another fashionable night on the red carpet has passed by giving the critics new gowns to ooh and aah over. We have tallied the fashion blogs for the top picks for Best Dressed on the Golden Globes wet Red carpet.

It seems bloggers and fashion critics were torn. There is only one dress that everyone agreed upon. The style winner of the Golden Globes is Marion Cotillard. Everyone loved her green satin Dior gown with the little peak of lace lingerie. Paired with the Jimmy Choo sandals, Marion Cotillard couldn’t get any better.

The rest of the best of lists were split in their decision.

Many, including Elle Magazine and Vogue loved Maggie Gyllenhaal’s peach RM by Roland Mouret. Also, many  liked Drew Barrymore’s daring dress choice. Her nude Atelier Versace dress with beaded embellishments at the hip and shoulder could have been a fashion mishap, but she seemed to have pulled it off. Flare editor Lisa Tant described it best on Twitter saying that it matched her personality.

Kate Hudson in her white Marchesa dress really wowed on the red carpet and seemed to be a shoo in for every best dressed list. Some, like Eonline, felt the dress wore her instead of the other way around.

Diane Kruger brought some serious colour to many best dressed lists. Her pink tulle Christian Lacroix Haute Couture was a hit. Lacroix also scored a hit with a dress on Ginnifer Goodwin at the People’s Choice Awards, so we should look out for his dresses at the Oscars.

The most hated outfits?

Mariah Carey in a low plunging Herve Leger, Chloe Sevigny’s ruffled nude colored Valentino mess ( and it got ripped to boot), Christina Hendricks in a ruffled  satin peach concoction and Tina Fey’s Zac Posen’s black and white puddle skirted  outfit was also one of the most disliked gowns.

As per our earlier post about the Red Carpet, Real Style Network’s editors loved Marion, LOVED Kate Hudson, thought Sophia Loren was gorgeous and elegant and liked January Jones’ Lanvin gown!

Look here for pictures of all of the fabulous dresses.

Real Style Network Chooses ‘People’s Choice Awards’ Fashion Winners and Losers

Friday, January 8th, 2010

The People’s Choice Awards have all been given out and found a place on the shelves of the winners, and now the winners and loosers in the fashion arena at the People’s Choice Awards have been handed out as well. Real Style has reviewed the critics choices and have selected our own favorites.

Best Dressed:

Diane Kruger has been named one of the best dressed by many including Entertainment Tonight for her Hervé Léger white bandage dress. Vogue named mom Jessica Alba one of their best dressed of the week for her Antontio Berardi silver mini. Everyone agreed that Big Love star Ginnifer Goodwin added drama to the red carpet with a striped Christian Lacroix dress with a big flower on the shoulder. Glee star Lea Michele stood out in her Nuj Novakhett red strapless dress and colourful shoes and received many honorable mentions.

At Real Style, we thought Jessica Alba’s dress won hands down ( weren’t crazy about her hair color or cut though) !jessica-alba-peoples-choice-awards-dress

Worst Dressed:

There were some fashion mishaps as well, The Huffinton Post put both Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rutherford’s gold floor length gowns on the worst dressed list. We did not like Mariah Carey’s very tight and clearly awkward dress at all, so we have to put it up there with Nicole and Kelly’s outfits.

Most Controversial:

The critics seem split on Carrie Underwood’s Christian Cota cage dress. Her tan strapless dress had a lace spiderweb like overlay on it giving her split reviews. People Magazine named her best dressed while others said it was a disaster.

Popular Colours and Trends:

Neutral tones of white, tan, grey, silver and gold were popular colour choices. Sandra Bullock looked gorgeous as she won her awards in her draped gold gown.  One-shouldered goddess gowns and strapless mini’s were the preferred style choices. Real Style editors have flagged that trend as huge in 2009 and into 2010.

FASHION NEWS: Christian Lacroix To Shut Haute Couture & RTW Lines

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

We have been following the court proceedings of Christian Lacroix since they announced they would have to file for bankruptcy months ago. AFP reports that a French court approved a plan for the fashion house today that included letting go of nearly all of their staff and stopping it’s main clothing activities.

The court in Paris approved a plan to shut down the haute couture and ready-to-wear Lacroix clothing lines since they had no buyers ready to step in and take over.

Eleven people will be left on staff to run the men’s wear, wedding and perfume lines.

Christian Lacroix himself has not commented yet on the decision. The fashion house lost 10 million euros in 2008 alone and has not made a profit since it began.

The courts say this ruling will give Christian Lacroix chance to rebuild it’s line and work with potenial buyers to come to a deal.

FASHION NEWS: Christian Lacroix Has No Buyers

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

In October we told you that, Sheikh Hassan Ben Ali al-Naimi made a $100 million bid for the fashion house that was expected to save it from collapse. At that time Lacroix said ““As a Latin guy, I’ll believe it when it happens”. It maybe just be the “famous last words”.

AFP reports that the French tribunal finished up bankrupcy hearings for the fashion house of Christian Laxroix with no news of any buyers today. The judicial administrator said “To this day, bidders to take over the firm have not justified the means of financing their company plans, or at least not sufficiently.”

A new hearing is set for December 1st giving buyers Gulf investor Hassan bin Ali al-Nuaimi and France’s Bernard Krief Consulting time to submit details.

Like other fashion houses, such as Versace, Christian Lacroix has been suffering due to the economic downturn. Reuters reports that in 22 years of trading they have never made a profit and lost 10 million euros in 2008.

FASHION NEWS: CHRISTIAN LACROIX RESCUED

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

As we told you previously, the iconic house of Christian Lacroix had filed for bankruptsy and was facing liquidation. This threw the entire high fashion industry into a state of angst as clearly if one major fashion house falls, others will follow. So you can practically hear the collective, yet still tentative sigh of relief as a sheikh in shining armour has submitted a bid for the company which would preserve all operations in tact. Lacroix told WWD :

“As a Latin guy, I’ll believe it when it happens,” Lacroix told WWD on Wednesday. However, he added, “I feel confident,” particularly because the approach came to the designer directly via his XCLX company, through which he does a variety of projects, from signature hotels and opera costumes to tramways for French cities. “They understood my true work: crossing fashion, art and design,” Lacroix said.

FASHION TRENDS:CHRISTIAN LACROIX OFFERS FASHION TIPS FOR FALL

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

The iconic fashion designer Christian Lacroix offers the following fashion tips and style guide for the upcoming season:

STRICT, SNUG-FITTING, SOPHISTICATED,
“LASER” WITHOUT AGGRESSIVENESS,
BAROQUE WITHOUT EXUBERANCE,
FEMININE WITHOUT AFFECTATION
ALTHOUGH THIS WINTER SEASON, ALL LINES INCLUDED, IS
SLIGHTLY INSPIRED BY PORTRAITS FROM THE RENAISSANCE
(”MUTTON” SLEEVES, BLACK OR BRONZE METAL CHAINS,
MINAUDIERES, FUR COLLARS),
MORE ESPECIALLY IT REDEFINES, WITHIN A CRITICAL CONTEXT
FOR WHICH NEW RESPONSES MUST BE FOUND, THE SILHOUETTE
AND THE SPIRIT OF THE HOUSE:
A PARISIAN FASHION HOUSE OF THE THIRD MILLENARY WITH
“87″REMINISCENCES.

VERY “COUTURE” PRECISION TAILORING FOR THE DAY,
DRAPING AND RUFFLING FOR THE EVENING, PRECIOUS MATERIALS
AND ACCESSORIES (IRIDESCENCE, HARD STONES, JET, CROCODILE,
SILK JACQUARDS, SOPHISTICATED, INTRICATE AND ILLUMINATED KNITS).

VERY “PARISIENNE” THE SHORT, SNAPPY SILHOUETTE, THE CINCHED WAIST,
THE “NEO-CHIC” OF A COLLECTION MORE “SOBER ET SOMBER”
(BLACK, CHOCOLATE, POWDER) THAN “SOL Y SOMBRA”.
(NONETHELESS WITH TWO MULTICOLOR PRINTS ON A PEACOCK BLUE, MUSTARD
AND BRONZE GREEN BACKGROUND IN ECHO OF THE SCARF
AND STOLE COLLECTIONS.)

FINALLY THE “HOUSE” SIGNATURES FROM THE 80S ROUND,
TULIP OR LANTERN SKIRTS, LACE BODYSUITS AND TIGHTS AS WELL AS
A WELL-EMPHASIZED SHOULDER LINE,

COCOON SHAPES, A NEAT SILHOUETTE AND PRECISE LINES: JUST
WHAT WE NEED NOT ONLY TO PROTECT OURSELVES FROM THE RIGORS
OF THE CLIMATE BUT ALSO TO CHALLENGE THOSE OF

CHRISTIAN LACROIX

As we have reported previously the French fashion design house was facing imminent bankruptsy. It now appears to be saved from that fate by two serious proposals from financial backers.

WWD reports that Italy’s Borletti group which owns numerous retail outlets was one and the other serious bid came from Bernard Krief consultants.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the bids are accepted, as otherwise the company would be liquidated , it’s employees reduced to 12 from 124 and it’s 22 year reign as one of France’s iconic fashion houses would effectively be reduced to a licencing operation.

THE ELEGANT: ARMANI PRIVE, ELIE SAAB, CHRISTIAN LACROIX-PARIS COUTURE FASHION SHOW VIDEOS

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009
Giorgio Armani Privé
We’re already chatted about this show and its famous front-row ladies. Cate Blanchett called the collection “understated and elegant.” The mostly black and white collection featured very lady like, fitted suits and gowns with emphasis on sequins. As you will see in the video, many outfits look like they could be worn right off the runway and of course the couture buyer does exactly that.

Elie Saab

His all white collection was both elegant and somewhat whimsical  Lots of  embelishment on the garments with toule and sequins .The show stopper was definitely the Snow Pincess wedding dress!

Christian Lacroix

Whispers echoed around Paris that this was his last show. If so, this black-and-navy,  collection was a testament to Lacroix’s genius. Whether or not the fashion house can withstand its current financial/partnership crisis is yet to be seen. The emotional standing ovation at the finale, as Christian followed his jaw-dropping eau de nil satin Russian bride gown with a gilded headdress( kokoshnik), only confirmed that Lacroix is a man who needs to remain on the runways. (See video below.)
