Twilight: Eclipse opens tonight at midnight. It’s a time many fans have been waiting for, and those camping outside waiting for the final few hours to go by can start packing up their tents and putting away their sleeping bags. As much as people make fun of this, it’s not anything new. Fans for the Star Wars Episode One camped out for over a month before it premiered in 1999. When Harry Potter premieres the first part of the Deathly Hollows in November the same reception can be expected.
Fans of the series have something to look forward to this time around, as many critics are calling Eclipse the best of the series. Afterwards however you can bet you will be hearing debates about more than who Bella Swan should end up with. Like most adaptations there will be people picking apart what the movie left out, or what it changed from the source material. Unfortunately turning the 640 page book into a movie is impossible without making a few changes.
While you wait for the last few hours to go by, check out this Fox interview with the cast during last nights premiere in SoHo.

First Harry Potter did it with Deathly Hallows, now Twilight is following suit and breaking the final novel of their vampire series, Breaking Dawn, into two separate movies. By doing this it not only allows the movie studio to add extra profit from an incredibly profitable series (it has grossed $1.1 billion in worldwide box office ticket sales to date), but it also allows the writers to stay closer to the plot of the book. This has been long rumored, and yesterday Summit Entertainment confirmed it by way of press release. The first part is set to be released on November 18th, 2011. Both parts will be directed by Academy Award winner Bill Condon (writing for Gods and Monsters), and Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are set to return to their iconic roles. The third film in the series, Eclipse, will premiere in theaters on June 30th.
