American Idol was turned upside down yesterday when it was announced that Ellen DeGeneres had decided not to return next season to the hit FOX TV show.
Popeater quotes Ellen as saying “A couple months ago, I let FOX and the ‘American Idol’ producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings.”
Who will replace Ellen is unknown and with FOX all ready looking for a replacement for Simon Cowell the show will definitely have a different feel to it next season. Another judge, Kara DioGuardi, is not under contract for next year and rumors are swirling that she will not return either. Some sources say she’s been fired, while others say she just isn’t going to see her contract renewed. This leaves Randy Jackson as the last judge standing.
So who will replace the departing judges? Well first off rumors are that Idol will return to a three judge format, so that leaves only two new faces needed. TMZ is reporting that Jennifer Lopez has signed on to replace Ellen. They are also reporting that Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler has finalized negotiations to be the third and final judge. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen as FOX has not made any official announcement. In recent weeks we’ve heard rumors of everyone from Chris Isaac to Harry Connick Jr. and Jessica Simpson in talks to join the show.
Look out parents, all star weekend are coming to transform your daughters into pack of rampant screaming girls.
In the same tune as so many other bands Allstar Weekend are a poppy boy band aimed right at preteen girls with their fun weekend songs and ballads. In their first EP, Suddenly, the music is instantly catchy and fun. Girls are going to instantly love Allstar Weekend for their sound.
As far as these typical young pop bands go, Allstar Weekend are actually fairly talented. They have elements of a lot of the poppy bands I listened to when I was younger that eventually opened me to my adult faves. This is a good music starting point for kids.
I just wish Allstar Weekend would stop trying so hard. They name drop bands that are way too old for them and try to put on a big face. It gets painfully cheesy at times. I know that is a part of being young, but I want kids to be themselves.
I expect young girls will soon be singing “Hey Princess” out loud and fighting over the cute lead singer. You might as well be prepared.
Here is the music video for “Different Side of Me” by Allstar Weekend:
In case you haven’t heard, a certain President of the United States of America appeared this morning on The View. Of course what most people were thinking about before his appearance is how he’d get along with staunch Republican Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Strangely enough she kept fairly quiet, and Obama looked extremely comfortable with it all.
Now what did they discuss? Not everything was about politics, that I can assure you. They talked about his Blackberry (which everyone knows he loves and it hasn’t played that much of a role since he took over presidency) and pop culture (he knows Lindsay Lohan is in jail, and wouldn’t comment on Mel Gibson or Jersey Shore character Snookie). He did tell the hosts that he chose The View for an appearance because the first lady Michelle is a fan of the show.
On the political side of things, he said that race is still an issue in America, as is evident by the whole Shirley Sherrod controversy that he called phony. He also commented on how people think he’s had it tough in the White House by saying it’s the people of America who’ve had it tough by losing their jobs and having financial problems, not him.
Overall it was a good appearance, and one that will surely appeal to Americans. He’s the first sitting President to appear on the show, and it brings him down to the level of the people.
After the shocking conclusion to season 4, fans of the hit HBO series Dexter have been waiting for word as to when the next season is set to begin. Well wait no further, it’s been announced that season 5 will start on September 26th, 2010.
We know that Julia Stiles has joined the cast for 10 episodes as Dexter’s new love interest. Also joining the cast for season 5 are Shawn Hatosy in a villain role, Maria Doyle Kennedy as a nanny, and Robocop himself Peter Weller who will appear in eight of the twelve episodes as a troubled cop.
The biggest news however is the trailer that was released over the weekend at the San Diego comic con. It’s everything you expect it to be.
Teen Pop Sensation Justin Bieber is soon to be a T.V. star. He’s signed on to guest star on the hit CBS series CSI. In the September 23rd episode CBS tells us that Bieber “will play Jason McCann, a troubled teen who is faced with a terrible decision regarding his only brother-a decision that leads him into an explosive confrontation with the CSIs. It is the beginning of an emotional story that will conclude later in the season.” CBS also teases that this will not be the only episode Bieber is in. They are hoping it turns into a multi-episode story arc.
Halle Berry is the latest star to lend her voice to the Fox animated series The Simpsons. According to EW.Com The actress will play herself in a story which see her present an Academy Award to both Bart Simpson and his dad Homer. The episode is set to air in early 2011.
TMZ.Com is reporting that Jon and Kate Gosselin have settled their custody battle. Even though terms of the settlement have not be released a source tells the website, “An official agreement between Jon and Kate has been reached and they will be working together for the benefit of their children.”
With the answer to the question Chris or Roberto on the verge of being revealed in next weeks Bachelorette finale, People magazine has put Ali Fedotowsky on the cover of their latest magazine and written their feature article on her.
Rumors have been flying about who Ali chooses, including one that suggests she picks no one and walks away from the show still single.
In People’s exclusive interview Ali states “I was trying to be smart and fall in love with my heart — but use my head too. Sometimes the right thing is the hardest thing to do, and it’s definitely hard to hurt somebody. No matter what happens in the end, I hurt somebody.”
American born, Canadian raised character actor Maury Chaykin passed away early Tuesday morning in a Toronto hospital on his 61st birthday following kidney problems.
The Internet Movie Database lists Maury as having played 153 different roles, and his most notable include HBO’s ‘Entourage’, ‘Dances With Wolves,’ ‘A Life Less Ordinary,’ ‘Mystery, Alaska,’ ‘My Cousin Vinny’ and ‘The Mask of Zorro.’ Most of his roles were small character roles, but he did star in a few productions including ‘The Golden Spiders: A Nero Wolfe Mystery’ and ‘Whale Music’. He won a Best Actor Genie for the latter role.
He is survived by his wife Susanna and his daughter Rose.
Spencer Pratt has been known to be pretty out there when it comes to his theories (for instance in 2009 he and his wife Heidi Montag claimed that the 9/11 attacks were an inside job) but now he seems even crazier than ever. Ever since his break up with Heidi he’s gone into seclusion, and had little to no contact with his ex. He recently told x17online.com that ’she ‘doesn’t talk to me… because I’m loco.’
Well it seems like he speaks truly, especially if the recently surfaced pictures of the 26-year old tell the story correctly. Instead of the clean shaven Hollywood pretty boy, we now have a bushy bearded, wild haired man who looks like he’s been lost in the woods for a few months without a razor. You can see the pictures here. When asked about his new look he told People that ’I've already gone for the blonde, spiky-haired look. Now I’m going for the Hollywood producer look. I’m an artist now. I have an easel and everything. I’m going for an art show and a gallery.’
Spencer recently made the news as well when he tried crashing The Hills reunion party. Security was on the look out for him though, and refused him entry.
Not sure why they feel the need to remake The Girl With Dragon Tattoo all ready, but first it was announced that David Fincher (Seven, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) would direct the movie, and now Daniel Craig is on board to play the role of journalist Mikael Blomkvist.
Perhaps people just didn’t like reading the subtitles, but if they’d read the book and then watched the movie they would have discovered that it is perhaps one of the best adaptations of a novel of all time.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is the first of Stieg Larsson’s popular Millennium Trilogy, and Daniel Craig has signed on for all three movies.
This announcement comes just days after Natalie Portman denied being cast as the female lead in the movie.
Sunday at San Diego’s Comic Con, Glee creator Ryan Murphy took the spotlight and answered some of the fans most pressing questions.
Season 2 will begin with the members of New Directions returning to a new school year at McKinely High as even bigger losers due to their placing third in the regionals. They are faced with a tough road, but the basic theme of the season will be “Do you have what it takes to win.”
People magazine reports “Tina is going to fall out of love with Artie and in love with Mike,” Murphy revealed. And fans of a Brittany-Santana love connection may have something to look forward to as writers are considering an episode where Santana and Brittany kiss, Murphy said.”
Rumors that were addressed include an appearance on the show by Justin Timberlake (not going to happen), performances of Britney Spears songs (six songs are scheduled, and perhaps the singer may appear in the episode as well), a tribute to the Rocky Horror Picture Show (the cast did an impromptu performance at the comic con), a motion picture deal (not going to happen yet, way too early), scaling back on the flashy musical numbers to increase the intimacy of the show (unfortunately this rumor is true), and the return of favourites Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth (just not as regulars).
A lot is on the plate for the hit show, and all of it will definitely keep the fans interested for the entire season.
People magazine is reporting that this weekend Amanda tweeted “I’m unretired” to her followers.
Back in June Amanda stated that being an actress wasn’t any fun anymore, and that she doesn’t do things that she doesn’t love. At 24 her age is starting to show though as she flips on the decision.
Amanda Bynes next movie is Easy A, which is due to hit theaters on September 17th.
If the San Diego Comic Con is to be remembered for anything, it will most likely be the unveiling of The Avengers cast.
Surprise guest Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) came out on stage to thundering applause to introduce the cast of the upcoming movie, including Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow). When he introduced another surprise guest Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) the crowd went wild. Robert Downey Jr proceeded to introduce the newest cast members Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Mark Ruffalo, who will replace Ed Norton as Bruce Banner/The Hulk.
This will be by far one of the most anticipated movies of 2012. Joss Whedon, the director of the movie joked on stage that “All my life I have had a dream. And it was not this good! I am going to blow it, just so you know.” Fans have been behind him from the start, as he is a noted comic book lover and creator of another geek loved series Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Ever since James Bond came on the scene spy movies have been popular. Kids would dream of being undercover agents trying to save the country from foreign invaders. In James Bond’s case it was the fun gadgets, the quirky comments, and his way with the ladies that made him who he was. When Jason Bourne came on the scene he added a new element, action. Well choreographed fights and hard hitting action caught your eye. It also added a level of mystery that kept you guessing as to what Jason Bourne had done or was going to do. In both cases however there was never any doubt as to if they were good guys or bad guys. Salt has changed things again. Not only does it bring a female spy into the mix, but throughout the movie it makes you question her motives and wonder who she is.
Salt opens with Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie of Tomb Raider and Wanted) held captive in North Korea and being tortured. They are trying to get her to admit her true identity, but she refuses and continues to claim that she works for a fuel company. Flash forward and the American government has come for her to take her home. A few months go by, and Salt finds herself back in her old job, working for the CIA. One of her duties is to talk to a Russian defector who came in off the streets and turned himself in, and he tells her that she is a mole working for the Russians. She denies the claim, but her superiors have to take the information seriously and attempt to detain her. She breaks free and goes on the run. Chasing her are two CIA agents Peabody (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor of 2012 and Serenity) and Ted Winter (played by Liev Schreiber of Wolverine: Origins and Repo Men) who are constantly trying to figure out whether the Russian defector was telling the truth about Salt. It’s a question you’ll be asking yourself until the final scene when the truth is finally revealed.
The promotional campaign for Salt surrounded the words ‘Who is Salt’, and throughout the movie you’ll find yourself asking the same question. It’s a perfect way to describe the movie as well, because it’s very unclear for most of it and you’ll change your mind with every new thing that is added. Sometimes Salt seems to be concerned about her husband, and at other times she seems like she’s doing exactly what the Russian Defector told her she’d be doing. Angelina Jolie is in great shape, and plays this role to a tee. She keeps you guessing as to what her true motive is. The action is pulse pounding, and from the moment Salt starts running it almost never slows down. One of the best things about the movie as well, is that if you pay attention during the movie to the little things that happen you’ll find clues to the answers of Salt’s true identity.
So who is Salt? You’ll find out by the end. It’s not a movie everyone will enjoy simply because at times you’re not sure if you are watching a good guy or a bad guy. It blurs the boundaries. Give it a chance though, because it won’t disappoint, even when it seems like it might. Female action stars are hard to come by and even harder to sell, but Angelina Jolie continues to do it better than most. She’s got the right charisma, the right look, and the right attitude. This is one of her best in the genre.
Yesterday Katy Perry revealed the cover to her new album Teenage Dream during a live Ustream Event. The album itself isn’t due to be released until August 24th, but the first single California Gurls has all ready been tearing up the charts.
The art features Perry lying naked in a cloud of cotton candy, and was painted by LA-based artist Will Cotton. The reveal online was the first time Perry had seen the piece of art herself, and her reaction was ”Oh my God, what will my mother think?”
Katy added during the event that “I have decided for this to be just the album cover — no print, no nothing, no ‘Katy Perry’. Hopefully they know it’s me by the actual picture.” She also informed us that the album insert will smell like cotton candy.
Katy also announced that her next single will be Teenage Dream and it is expected to hit the airwaves on July 26th. The other remaining songs on the 12-track disc will be announced on Friday, but they include Firework and Peacock.
