Milan Fashion Week Fall 2016 Roundup

With Milan Fashion Week officially wrapped for yet another season, the Italian runways offered a glimpse of the intricate, stunning styles for Fall 2016.

On the catwalk at Dolce & Gabbana, fairy tale inspiration was in the air as creative directors Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce unveiled a collection worthy of a princess. The latest looks featured elaborate gowns which were inspired by the likes of Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. Models strut the catwalks in flowing gowns with puffy sleeves, embellishment, floral accents and beadwork.

Meanwhile, Giorgio Armani revealed an intricate collection of luxurious black velvet, picturesque florals and cropped trousers. Rich jacquard, blue and pink plaids and practical beige pantsuits also made their way onto the runway. For a pop of colour, soft pastel shades, fuzzy textures and cool orange prints also made a splash.

Canadian-born twins Dean and Dan Caten also turned to samurais and Victorian inspiration to fuel their latest collection for their label Dsquared2. The quirky designs on the runway featured outerwear accented with fur and beadwork, sequined detail and rich neutral tones of khaki and olive green.

At Versace, creative director Donatella Versace turned to black leather, dark navy blue shades and subtle sex appeal for her latest collection. On the runway, this translated into edgy jackets with leather panels, slim-fitting trousers and sassy crop tops. While the colour palette stayed loyal to shades of dark blue and black, pops of yellow and pink also made an appearance.

Creative director Jeremy Scott was inspired by 15th-century Dominican monks who burned beautiful objects during the Renaissance period. As a result, Moschino’s new collection used details which captured the look of destruction, burn marks and smoke. The designs themselves featured plenty of red and black, biker chic leather, oversized bows and taffeta tops.

At Prada, designer Miuccia Prada’s collection explored the concept of the vagabond lifestyle. The pieces themselves ranged from puffy brocade dresses to funky argyle stockings and belted coats. An array of contrasting textures and colours made their way onto the runway, with furry detail on long black leather coats and funky floral embroidery on mid length dresses. Meanwhile, artist Christophe Chemin collaborated with Prada to produce this season’s prints.
