Polka Dots Make A Splash On The Catwalks

POLKA DOTS

While playful polka dots may bring your childhood to mind, this funky print managed to dominate the season’s catwalks and add a hint of pattern to the runways. If you’re sick of stripes and afraid of abstract, you may want to turn to polka dots as an alternative to other patterns. Here’s how to channel your inner schoolgirl, and modernize your polka dot prints for Winter 2016.

Casual Chic

Although head-to-toe polka dot prints may look garish for a day at the office, they can easily be adapted for daytime style. For a cool Saturday look, step into a loose black and white polka dot blouse worn with matching flared trousers (as spotted at Bottega Veneta). For a simplistic accessorizing finish which won’t overwhelm your patterned look, add a black leather handbag, black leather flats and stud earrings.

Work Wear

Update your nine to five style with a black sheer polka dot blouse with an oversized pussybow (as seen at Emanuel Ungaro). To enhance the look of the pattern, slip on a fitted black three quarter length coat with contrasting white polka dots. Add a pair of flowing black leather trouser and matching leather gloves to flatter the look of the bold patterns.

Evening

For a whimsical and girlish touch to the after hours, a flirty polka dot dress with a flared hem (as displayed on the Saint Laurent runway) can polish off your style. Add a hint of edgy sophistication with a cropped, collarless black blazer, mesh tights and black leather mini boots.
