New York Fashion Week Spring 2018 Looks

With the Spring 2018 shows currently taking place at New York Fashion Week, the American runways have revealed a sneak peek of emerging trends for the season ahead. For spring, billowing frocks shared the stage with the typical explosion of florals and candy pink. From Diane von Furstenberg to Alexander Wang, here’s a closer look at the best looks from the NYFW runways so far.

Diane von Furstenberg

Scottish designer Jonathan Saunders first joined DVF in May of last year, and is currently heading the fashion house as its chief creative officer. For Spring 2018, Saunders revamped the fashion house’s classic aesthetic of the wrap dress, and offered a rebellious finish. From bold paisley prints in electric blue to vertical orange stripes, frocks were adorned with all manner of detail. Meanwhile, deep V-necklines, fringe accents, flowery motifs and side slits completed the 1970s inspired designs on display.

Major Looks: Seventies inspiration, swirling patterns, V-necklines, thigh-high slits, electric hues

Victoria Beckham

At Victoria Beckham, femininity was the order of the day. The British designer, who is known for her tailored and girlish looks, stayed true to her signature style. Models stepped out in airy pastel tones, which ranged from soft yellow and pink to coral and turquoise. The occasional pop of bright red brightened the runway, while sleek pantsuits and checkered prints delivered a dose of refined elegance.

Major Looks:  Pastels, checks, pantsuits

Brandon Maxwell

Designer Brandon Maxwell played up drama on the catwalk, and presented a series of voluminous, fairytale gowns. From a textured strapless gown to a cage skirt in blush pink, Maxwell’s eveningwear creations all featured full, floor-length skirts. Plush knit sweaters and belted blazers emphasized the feminine silhouette, while mustard yellow and magenta made an appearance on trousers and a cape dress.

Major Looks: Drama and glamour, ballgown skirts, textured fabrics, magenta and mustard

Prabal Gurung

At Prabal Gurung, everything from sheer frocks and delicate ruffles to strategic side cut-outs was on display. The power shoulder was also back with a vengeance, with puffed shoulders appearing on cropped jackets. For a hint of contrasting texture, high-waisted leather shorts and a pleather trench coat were also juxtaposed against a collection of silky fabrics and knit tops.

Major Looks: Sheer frocks, the power shoulder, ruffles, leather, cut-outs

Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang played with the idea of neutrals, and models stormed the runway in varying takes on the little black dress and little white dress. Meanwhile, glittering embellishment, menswear inspired jackets with funky gold zippers and the pairing of leather and lace were also signature styles.

Major Looks: Black and white, sparkle, boyfriend blazers, contrasting textures
