While Toronto Fashion Week (which was formerly known as Toronto World MasterCard Fashion Week) was unfortunately cancelled in July, it looks like a new fashion venture is set to hit the city.

This past weekend at Toronto Men’s Fashion Week, the event’s executive team revealed plans to organize a Toronto Women’s Fashion Week early next year. The upcoming fashion week will be held in February 2017.

The announcement was unveiled as the TOM Spring/Summer 2017 shows officially wrapped for the season, with a dramatic screen projection. TOM advisory council member Roger Gingerich stated to CTV News that the plan has been in discussion since Toronto Fashion Week’s cancellation.

Gingerich also said to CTV that the upcoming Toronto Women’s Fashion Week will time with TOM, and is slated to run in August as well as February.

According to CTV, Gingerich has stated that a concept which involves parties, a prize for designers and industry talks could be a possibility for the new initiative.

Toronto Fashion Week was terminated after a loss in sponsorship, with IMG Canada revoking their support of the major Canadian fashion event. Held in March and October of every year, TFW also featured the Mercedes-Benz Start Up Award, which would honour emerging Canadian designers.
