Although the name Chanel may immediately bring iconic French luxury to mind, the Paris-based fashion house held its Cruise 2017 show in a decidedly different locale last night. Rather than the typical Parisian setting, creative director Karl Lagerfeld took to sunny Havana, Cuba as the setting for his latest fashion extravaganza.

According to Women’s Wear Daily, the newest Chanel collection is titled Coco Cuba and features a bold Latin influenced theme. Lagerfeld staged the show at El Paseo del Prado, a historic Cuban street which was transformed into a runway.

WWD reports that Chanel arranged for 700 guests to be flown in, while a number of celebrities were also in attendance. Actresses Tilda Swinton and Vanessa Paradis were in the front row, along with supermodel Gisele Bündchen.

Meanwhile, models strut the catwalk in Cuban inspired attire. The designs included crisp white shirts, which were paired with fitted black jackets and flowing, tiered skirts. Classic Chanel tweed jackets shared the stage, along with retro style graphic tees and splashy floral prints.

Mid-length dresses were adorned with embellished detail, and fringed detail and oversized puffy sleeves also made a statement. In true Cuban fashion, a few models posed saucily with cigars on the catwalk, or wore playful berets inspired by legendary revolutionary leader Che Guevara.

Here’s a closer look at a few key pieces from the Chanel Cruise 2017 line.
