The Best Way To Wear The Buttoned-Up Prep Runway Trend
All Done Up
While leather, sheer panels, cutouts, and stark black and white may all be telltale trends of spring 2013, we’re always looking for a way to veer off from the pack in something a little quirky and less overt. Preppy, androgynous looks we saw on runways from Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren for spring evoked school-boy meets Diane Keaton meets a blend of prints, plaids and textures.
Pretty, Proper, Prep
We’re sold on this new literal take on prep, and Olivia Munn recently proved preps have more fun in her tailored, proper look injected with girlish charm through heels (on her loafers, nonetheless) and a lot of leg. Showing the normally sultry star doesn’t take herself too seriously, she’s having fun with fashion and we can’t help but want to throw our hair up in our best sock-bun and emulate her entire outfit for work or play.
Runway To Real Way
If, like us, you prefer Olivia’s tailored and still feminine take on this trend, you can easily make the look yours. The air-tie (that’s the buttoned-up button up sans necktie thing she’s working) may seem miles from your typical glam style, but it’s actually a staple of street style favourites. Just keep your heels high, hair and makeup soft and pretty, and accessories more on the chic side. Proper never looked so unique.
