This Outerwear Trend Takes You From Winter To Spring

White Out

White in winter isn’t always easy to do. It’s great by concept, but when you try to turn that into a wearable (and practical) look, it’s common to flop and opt for the go-to darker hues. Read: you end up in black every day. We admit the same defeatist attitude at times when trying out the trend via ivory trousers and the like. Something about it just felt too Riviera for a slushy January trek to work.

Transition Piece

No big deal — you can still cash in on the luxurious creamy trend by opting for one piece that will survive winter and continue to be a wardrobe staple come spring. Besides, it will actually keep you warm and can be fantastic with an all-black ensemble. We loved the minimalist white overcoats on the Fall 2012 runways, showing us that white really can be winter-worthy. When Jennifer Lopez wore this cream version to a Parker screening recently, we were head over ankle-strap heels.

Copy The Look

Speaking of accessories, if you do go for a creamy topper, choose one in a shade that’s ever so-slightly nude, ivory or cream as seen at Valentino and Jil Sander, and balance all that lightness with a few simple metallic pieces or even black leather. A pair of black leather leggings or high black riding boots will add edge to this luxe must-have.
