Keira Knightley’s Best Period Costumes From Film

Keira Knightley’s latest period peace, Anna Karenina, has the Oscar-nominated actress donning some of the most gorgeous gowns we’ve seen on screen since, well, the last Keira Knightley historical film. Keira wears costumes created by Jacqueline Durran in Anna Karenina, the same costume designer she worked with on Atonement and Pride and Prejudice. With her classic bone structure and slender frame, Keira Knightley can embody strikingly beautiful women from any era. Here’s a look at some of the most memorable historical gowns that Keira Knightley has worn on the big screen throughout her career.

Keira Knightley was a 19th century beauty in her Oscar-nominated performance as Elizabeth Bennett in 2006’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.

Keira Knightley has worn a lot of dresses on the big screen, thanks to her penchant for period pieces, but the one that always stands out from the rest in our mind is the emerald green dress she wore in Atonement. Designed by famous costumed designer Jacqueline Durran, the ’40s gown looked amazing on Keira’s tiny figure.

Keira wore an elaborate wedding dress with a beaded neckline (costume designer Penny Rose) in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest in 2006.

Keira Knightley looked 18th century chic in 2008’s The Duchess, playing aristocrat Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire.

Keira’s 19th century costumes in Francois Girard’s Silk where created by Japanese designer Kazuko Kurosawa.

Keira tackled the early 20th century once again in Edge of Love, a romantic World War II era romance that was actually written by Keira’s mother.

Keira even looked fabulous as a hysterical patient in David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method, a film about the relationship between Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud.

Finally, Keira Knightley’s gowns from this Friday’s Anna Karenina might be the most impressive designs she’s worn on the big screen yet. The film has already inspired this winter’s faux fur craze, as well as designer’s love of all things opulent.
