Cirque Du Soleil’s Volta Is Enjoyable For The Whole Family

Cirque Du Soleil has been coming to Toronto’s Port Lands for several years, and every year people pack themselves under the big top to watch something they probably haven’t seen anything like before. Each year there is a theme, and a story to tell, with acrobats, clowns and performers of all types entertaining the crowds. Volta is no exception, but this year there might just be a little more incentive to bring your family along.

Volta follows the story of a game show host named Waz who has lost his way. No longer wanting to be the focus of attention, Waz takes off to find his youth, and bring back the spirit of fun he seems to have lost. Along the way he encounters several different free-spirits, who help him reconnect with the things he enjoyed when he was younger. From jumping rope, to playing with balls and riding a bike, Waz tries to make sense of the life he’d been living and the one he’d left behind.

Volta is the perfect show to bring your children to, because it shows them that it’s all right to be kids. Beyond the story though, they will be amazed by the spectacle presented to them.  If the adults were amazed by the sites of rope skipping faster than seems humanly possible, a tightrope walker balancing on a small rope, or BMZ bike stunts that allow the riders to seemingly fly through the air, you can only imagine how the kids felt. They sit there with their eyes and mouths wide open, and with every unbelievable stunt they tug on their parents or siblings arms so they are sure they are seeing it too. And when the clown came on stage, they were laughing at his pratfalls just as loud, if not louder, than the rest of the crowd. And while the adults could pick out their favourite performances of the night, the children couldn’t. When asked they responded with “all of it”. Sure the show ended well past their bedtimes, but sometimes staying up late is a treat worth paying the price of a sluggish morning the day after for.

Cirque Du Soleil Volta is a treat for adults and children alike, and makes for a great night out with the family. It’s now playing at the Toronto Port Lands until November 26th. You won’t want to miss it.
