Tessa Virtue, Laura Vandervoort, Erica Durance And More Wish Canada A Happy 150th Birthday

This weekend marks Canada’s 150th birthday, and all across the country the celebration will be marked by fireworks, parties, bbq’s and much more. In Real Style Magazine’s Summer 2017 issue we spoke to Dan Aykroyd about what makes him proud to be a Canadian and what his plans were to celebrate the occasion. We also had a chance to speak with several other celebrities, and here are their answers.

Olympian and Gold Medalist Tessa Virtue

What makes you proud to be a Canadian?
Travelling around the world is a great reminder that Canada’s reputation as being a polite, kind, inclusive nation is as strong as ever. Donning the maple leaf as an athlete, and representing a country that is so vast and diverse, makes me extraordinarily proud. Happy Birthday, Canada!

How to do you plan on celebrating Canada’s 150th Anniversary?
I will be celebrating Canada’s 150th with my family at our cottage on Lake Huron – there will be champagne, sparklers, and red confetti galore!

What makes you proud to be a Canadian?
The immense diversity we have. The freedoms we have and share. The respect we have around the world and the fact that I feel at home shore to shore.

How to do you plan on celebrating Canada’s 150th Anniversary?
I hope to spend it at home in Canada up north at our family cottage. Fireworks, family and food.

TV Host Scott McGillivray

What makes you proud to be a Canadian?
Being Canadian is, in my opinion, one of the best kept secrets out there. When you go anywhere else in the world and tell people you’re from Canada, I love the expression on their faces, like they’re immediately interested and impressed. Our reputation is one we can all take pride in. Why wouldn’t you be proud to come from a country where the worst stereotype about us is that we apologize too much?

How to do you plan on celebrating Canada’s 150th Anniversary?
Hoping that my backyard will be all done up and finished by then so that I can invite the whole family and some friends over for a massive BBQ at the new house. I love the Canada Day long weekend for the BBQs and pool parties so I’m hoping I get to host this year.

Saving Hope Actress Erica Durance

What makes you proud to be a Canadian?
We are truly multicultural. We are tolerant. It is so incredibly beautiful here. We are a people that believe in hard work, honesty, and helping your family and neighbours.

How to do you plan on celebrating Canada’s 150th Anniversary?
I will spend the anniversary in B.C. with my family – taking advantage of the beautiful surroundings and camping!
