See Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Tribute To Buffy The Vampire Slayer’s 19th Anniversary
It’s hard to believe that yesterday marked Buffy The Vampire Slayer’s 19th anniversary. Well the TV series anyway. After the movie was taken in a different direction than he originally conceived in 1992, Joss Whedon was given a second change to bring his character Buffy to audiences around the world on television on the now defunct The WB network. Originally it was a mid season replacement, but it quickly gained popularity and lasted for 7 seasons from 1997-2003. The series became ingrained in pop culture, and was among the first to use the phrase Google It. Buffy became a cultural icon, and a symbol for strong women. Yesterday Sarah Michelle Gellar paid tribute to her star making role on Facebook.
Gellar posted a photo of herself from her Buffy days on Facebook, and a note that said “19 years ago tonight, I got to introduce you to Buffy The Vampire Slayer (and #mrpointy too) thank you for taking the incredible journey with me and continuing still. I am and forever will be #grateful”
Buffy the Vampire Slayer followed the story of the chosen one, Buffy Summers, as she moved from high school to college, and fought the forces of darkness. The series spawned a spin-0ff series called Angel, several video games, comic books and novels. There have been talks of a remake, but so far nothing has progressed on that front.
