What The Twilight Stars Are Doing Next

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 premiered this week, marking the end of the series that changed the lives of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene and the rest of the cast. So what’s next for these actors? Whose career will skyrocket and whose might dwindle? We decided to take a look!

Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart was already a Hollywood star when she signed on to The Twilight Saga back in 2008, thanks to her critically acclaimed role in Panic Room opposite her on-screen mother Jodie Foster. What Twilight did for Kristen was turn her into a household name and make her the envy of teenage girls the world over. The notoriously shy but nevertheless career-focused starlet has been carefully paving her career path for her post-Twilight years while still portraying Bella Swan. With roles in folms like Welcome to the Rileys and The Runaways, Kristen has balanced out her acting life as Bella with serious indie cred. So what’s next for one of the most celebrated actresses of the next generation of Hollywood? Kristen has been busy promoting her latest role in On the Road, based on the famous book by American author Jack Kerouac, but other than that, her schedule is wide open. She’s only rumoured to be attached to Snow White and the Huntsman 2, but given that controversy surrounding her affair with director Rupert Sanders hasn’t died down yet, we’re not sure if that film is even going to happen. There were rumours that Sanders who instead direct a schedule that focused on Chris Hemsworth’s character. Kristen also allegedly beat out Jennifer Lawrence for the starring role in Lie Down in Darkness, an adaptation of William Styron’s 1951 novel. Whatever Kristen chooses to do next, she’s really in no rush. She’s one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood and, at just 22 years old, the world is her oyster.

Robert Pattinson
His girlfriend Kristen Stewart might be leaving her future wide open, but Robert Pattinson has been mapping out his post-Twilight career path for quite some time. And we have to say: his movie choices definitely show that he’s been thinking smartly about how he wants to be seen in Hollywood once his days of playing Edward Cullen are finally over. One of the most interesting things that Rob is doing is signing on to British films. After all, we merely have to sit through a Twilight marathon to completely forget that Rob has a British accent in real life. He and fellow Brit and Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan will star in Hold on to Me, a film by British director James Marsh. If you don’t know Marsh’s work, that’s probably because you didn’t realize that he was the director behind some of the most fascinating documentaries we’ve ever seen, like Project Nim and Man on Wire. It will definitely be easier for Rob to dissociate himself from his Edward Cullen character by taking on roles that allow him to use his actual accent. Rob has also signed up to star in a film by one of the most talked about directors of our time: the always fascinating Werner Herzog. Rob will be using his British accent once again in this film about a archeaologist and cartographer played by Naomi Watts who works for the British Empire at the beginning of the 20th century. Jude Law also stars in this film, which means Rob is definitely aligning himself with some of the most talented actors of his time. And finally, Rob will star in Canadian director David Cronenberg’s next film, Maps to the Stars, opposite Rachel Weisz and Viggo Mortensen, which is set to be a critical look at the world of Hollywood. Rob starred in Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis this past summer, so we can’t help but wonder if Robert Pattinson and David Cronenberg are the new Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese, as far as collaborations go.

Taylor Lautner
We expected Taylor Lautner’s first post-Twilight role to be an action movie, but he surprised us by signing on to Grown Ups 2, a comedy opposite Adam Sandler, Salma Hayek, Steve Buscemi, Andy Samberg and Chris Rock, just to name a few. His next action movie will follow shortly after with Taylor starring in Tracers as a New York City bike messenger wanted by the mafia who gets escapes into the world of parkour after meeting a beautiful woman. Okay, we’ve definitely heard of much stranger premises than that.

Ashley Greene
We’re pretty psyched for Ashley Greene’s first post-Twilight movie, and not just because she’ll star alongside the gorgeous Malin Akerman in a film about the famous nightclub CBGB during New York City’s punk scene… Okay, scratch that, that’s exactly why we’re excited about it. Just the costumes and the soundtrack alone will make this one of the movies we’re looking forward to most in 2013. The Twilight franchise has definitely left Ashley Greene in a good place as far as her career goes. Not only is she the current face of DKNY (it was Ash’s dream to be a model long before she went into acting), she’s also been selected to play the lead in the Weinstein Company’s Satanic, about a college dorm that’s under attack by Satan’s minions. From vampires to demons? Why not!

Kellan Lutz
If anyone in Hollywood was going to play Tarzan, it would have to be Kellan Lutz… or Chris Hemsworth, but Chris is already Thor, so it didn’t surprise us at all that Kellan’s first major post-Twilight role will be in 2013’s Tarzan and in the starring role, no less. He also has an action movie about hunting down a terrorist opposite Mickey Rourke called Java Heat coming out, a romantic action flick opposite Amber Heard called Syrup, and a film about a guy and a girl who fall in love in a world where homosexuality is the norm and heteros are deemed unnatural in Love Is All You Need? opposite Camilla Belle.

Nikki Reed
We’re very curious to see one of Nikki Reed’s first post-Twilight projects, which happens to be a movie written by Josh Whedon, the man responsible for The Avengers, The Cabin in the Woods, and of course Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. It’s a romantic sci-fi about polar opposites who are strangely attracted to one another. Nikki will also star alongside Miley Cyrus’ fiance Liam Hemsworth in Empire State, a film about a robbery gone awry and Pawn, which also about a robbery gone wrong.

Dakota Fanning
Dakota Fanning has more films in the works than any of her costars from Breaking Dawn Part 2. We think it’s kind of funny that Dakota is actually following the lead of younger sister Elle Fanning by starring opposite Stephen Dorff in an upcoming film, the drama called The Motel Life, which also stars Emile Hirsh. We could go on and on about all the films Dakota is attached to, but we’re most excited for Very Good Girls, the story of two New York City girls who make a pact to lose their virginity the summer after they graduate from high school. The film also stars Elizabeth Olsen and promises to make anyone who thinks of Dakota Fanning as a child star to think again. If her kiss with Kristen Stewart in The Runaways didn’t prove to you that 18-year-old Dakota is ready for her gorwnup film career to kick off than this will.
