Top 5 Jake Gyllenhaal Movies

Jake Gyllenhaal’s latest flick End of Watch hits theaters today, and like usual he’s been attracting a fair bit of positive attention for his acting in the movie.  Even though he’s not even 32 yet, he’s been in movies for over 20 years.  Here are our top five movies he’s been in.

Jake was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Brokeback Mountain, and rightfully so.  The movie about two cowboys falling in love and pursuing a secretive and forbidden relationship pushed boundaries, and was one of the best movies of 2005.

Zodiac is the true story of the serial killer who plagued San Francisco in the 70′s, and the cartoonist who became so obsessed with him that his life started falling down around him.  Jake draws you in from the very beginning, and you find yourself getting drawn into his obsession.  The movie was over 2 1/2 hours long, but thanks to his performance you don’t really notice.

Jake was only 19 when October Sky came out, but it was this movie that really got him noticed by Hollywood.  This is another true story, and it’s about a coal miner’s son who decides to build a rocket after witnessing the launch of Sputnik.

In Jarhead Jake plays a marine in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait during the Gulf War.  At times the movie is really intense, but once again Jake pulls you in and make you want to see more.

No list of Jake Gyllenhaal movies can be complete without mentioning Donnie Darko.  The movie is about a teenager who is plagued by visions of a giant bunny that convinces him to commit a series of crimes.  It didn’t do very well at the theater, but it did grab a cult following.  You can skip the sequel though, as Jake’s nowhere to be seen in it.
