Matis by Lucian Matis
Lucian Matis kicked off the day with his diffusion line Matis by Lucian Matis. The affordable collection designed specifically with the career orientated woman in mind featured plenty of powerful suits, fun prints for weekend wear and a splash of silver sequins. Peplum was strong on the Matis runway with a pretty navy lace dress practical for both the office and a night out. 70’s style prints came through in long maxi styled dresses but the highlight was a silver sequined pant suit, another 70’s throwback, sexy and the perfect alternative to the expected cocktail dress.
We weren’t complaining about two Lucian Matis shows in one day. Lucian showcased another side of his design talents with mosaic prints, silky pants, and one hell of a croc leather dress. Once again Lucian showed his love for the peplum with sheer variations of the silhouette. Croc leather came down the runway with a bralette top paired with a full below the knee skirt and a floor length stunner that was instantly tweeted by the top editors. Models had half slicked back hair with the ends slightly frizzy and messy for the perfect effortless spring look, minimal makeup was the perfect complement to the praised collection.
Korhani Home is known for being one of the most fun shows during fashion week and they definitely did not disappoint this season. Just when I was wondering what could possibly top the adorable piglets from last season, models came trotting down the runway with parrots, yes parrots! The rugs presented in the form of fashion came in short cocktail dresses and long mermaid styles with inspiration from the 1920’s flappers with a strong Great Gatsby influence to bright prints and even jumpsuits with Frida Kahlo as muse. The show is always very theatrical and it was refreshing to see the models smile and dance down the runway in what looked a lot like couture.
The outerwear brand showed leather in sunny yellow, mint green, classic camel, and even dip dyed treated leather fading from camel to black and a grey and blue version which gave the illusion of denim. Several variations of moto jackets came down the runway in the same cut but different colour. We are definitely a fan of the leather shorts in all different colours and nude leather skinnies seen on top model Senait. The pastel mint green trench coat stood out from the pack of leather garments and is a fresh alternative to a classic camel trench.
There was buzz before the show that Pat Cleveland, a supermodel and fashion icon in the 70’s would open and close Joe Fresh. A tweet right before show time confirmed the rumors and Pat came strutting down the runway with some fabulous moves that put a smile on everyone’s face. The mod vibe of the collection came with plenty of white, white sport jackets, white shift dresses, and black and white harlequin prints. The collection this season was inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s film The Birds. There was no shortage of metallic’s which came in silver jeans, brocade dresses and skirts, and gold and silver denim. Collared metallic capes were paired with simple shift dresses. At the end of the show the audience gave the first standing ovation of the season and we know why: Joe Fresh always hits the mark with their affordable but completely on trend pieces.
