Pantone has named “Monaco Blue” the “it” colour of Spring 2013! “Monaco Blue” is almost on the exact opposite side of the colour spectrum from 2012′s hottest colour “Tangerine Tango,” which we told you about last year. The darker, almost grey blue topped Pantone’s list of the 10 most popular colours of Spring 2013. We might be sensing a bit of nautical inspiration from the list. Falling closely behind Monaco Blue in the top 4 were: 2. Dusk Blue 3. Emerald and 4. Grayed Jade. The rest of the top 10 was made up of: 5. Linen 6. Poppy Red 7. African Violet 8. Tender Shoots 9. Lemon Zest and 10. Nectarine.
Pantone announced the news at New York Fashion to kick off the Spring 2013 runways in style. Prior to showcasing their Spring 2013 collections, some of the biggest designers from New York Fashion Week like Tracy Reece and Peter Som gave Pantone access to their sketches and swatches for their upcoming collections, and that’s how the institute determined next spring’s hottest colours.
“The expression ‘balancing act’ is something we all relate to as we strive to find harmony in the frantic pace of our everyday lives,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “The same can be said for fashion as we look for balance between light and bright, classic and new. This season’s colour palette emphasizes this need for balance, while at the same time allowing for individuality, self-expression and excitement.”
