Summer Knits
Some of our favourite designers like Oscar De La Renta, Derek Lam, Rag & Bone, Charlotte Ronson, Rodarte and more showed knits in their Spring/Summer 2012 collections, and we have been heated up about summer knitwear ever since. Lately we’ve noticed some of our trendsetter style stars in the trend, too, like Whitney Port when she stepped out in, yes, a knit sweater in July.

Whit In Knits
We love how Whitney has paired her loose, effortless knit with dainty lace tap shorts, ankle strap flats and on-trend round-frame shades. You can easily get this look at home with a cropped, swingy knit. Just make sure it’s made of a lightweight knit, preferably with an open “hole” weave so you don’t overheat (see the Rag & Bone version).

How To Wear It
Pair your loose knit top with cute shorts in a metallic, lace or embellished texture if you are going out for evening, or if you want a sexy cottage nighttime look, throw it over your bathing suit and denim cutoffs. For a sweet summer look inspired by the Derek Lam collection, pair a pastel or citrus hued short-sleeved or sleeveless knit with a skirt or shorts in another candy colour. We love the combo of texture mixing and colour blocking. This is just one way a winter piece can work for summer, too.
