Since 2001, Toronto’s Amy Lu has been making the world a more fashionable place. With styling for Fashion Magazine, People, Vanity Fair, Canada’s Next Top Model and Much Music, this is one Canadian girl who knows how to stay on the edge of fashion. We asked Amy Lu for her fall fashion tips to update our wardrobe this season.
Real Style Network: What are a couple of pieces that will update your end of summer wardrobe on a budget?
Amy Lu: I would definitely suggest rocking some of the great color pieces that are available right now; it won’t be long before colored denim is a distant memory, so I am fully participating in that trend! Another thing to consider is that summer shoes are on sale right now so think about stashing a few pairs of embellished gladiators and florescent flip-flops for next year! Real Style Network: What are some pieces that you can buy now that will last into fall?
Amy Lu: The great thing about [working with] eBay.ca is that everything is available year round, so you’re not limited to what’s in season. I definitely suggest starting to build your fall wardrobe now, especially with back-to-school basics that are a no-brainer like denim, blazers, and boots.
Real Style Network: What are your 5 must have pieces for fall?
Amy Lu: Leather Leggings, Chunky-knit Pullover Sweater, Glitter Fabric Dress, Maroon Blazer (and matching deep red lipstick), and a Long Military Inspired Anorak
Real Style Network: What will you be wearing this fall?
Amy Lu: Fall is definitely my favorite season for fashion; it’s always the start of a new cycle in style. I am really excited to wear fall hues, like maroon, forest green, and yes of course black as well. My go-to uniform usually consists of skinny black denim, a blouse, and blazer all topped off with the perfect coat and shades. I’m looking forward to investing in some of this fall’s trends like leather, glitter fabric, big coats, and cozy sweaters.
Real Style Network: Who are some celebs that people should look to for cue on great style?
Amy Lu: Style and inspiration are very personal so take style cues from the people that you think look great and admire. Do your research and invest time in flipping through magazines and fashion blogs and see who inspires you with their style. Real Style Network: Do you have any tricks to help women look slimmer?
Amy Lu: Feeling fabulous and believing in your own beauty is key; self-confidence is really the best trick to look your best! I will say that Spanx are girl’s best friend when it comes to red-carpet fashion and high-heels definitely give the perfect boost!
Real Style Network: What is your ultimate styling tip?
Amy Lu: Smile and have fun! Clothing is a necessity, fashion is a gift to be enjoyed. Play, experiment, take risks! I’d also suggest downloading the eBay app (available free on iTunes) to your phone, it makes shopping on the go super easy so you can search for items from anywhere, anytime! Last but not least, I do tend to try on outfits prior to wearing them and I advise clients to do that also, it avoids fashion meltdowns when you’re running late for an event.
