We like to imagine that we look something like both of these women when we’re strutting down the street to yoga in our Lululemon gear (hey, we’re allowed to dream), but we ultimately haven’t put in the kind of hours that Scarlett Johansson and Anne Hathaway did at the gym to squeeze into their infamous comic-book-to-big-screen bodysuits. But who ultimately wore it best? Although we like the glossy finish on Hathaway’s suit, we love the way Johansson’s utility belt with the red buckle really pulls her look together. That said: let’s get down to what this is really all about by considering how much effort each actress put in to fitting into her tight ensemble (because, when it comes to pulling off a skin-tight bodysuit, success is really measured by how many squats, lunges and sit-ups you did to fit into it; not the label or fabric its made of).
Here’s what Anne Hathaway had to say about her Catwoman catsuit in The Dark Knight Rises: “[The costume] was a psychological terrorist. The suit, thoughts of my suit, changing my life so I would fit into that suit…It dominated my year. I went into the gym for ten months and didn’t come out.”
And here’s what Scarlett Johansson said about her Black Widow bodysuit for The Avengers: “The material is like a torture chamber. I literally had to peel it off. We all had skin conditions going with our outfits after 15 hours of non-stop sweat. I was sending pictures to my dermatologist in Los Angeles… First of all every woman has body worries, I’m not exempt from that. But part of the by-product of spending that much time in the gym is that you can fit into a catsuit.”
We have to give props to both Anner and Scarlett for their determination to look good while kicking butt, but who do you think ultimately wore it best?
