Nelson Mandela’s Clothing Line Takes Over NYC

Nelson Mandela might be 6 years shy of turning 100, but he’s not slowing down. In fact, he celebrated his 94th birthday, aka Mandela Day, this past Wednesday by debuting his clothing and accessories line 466/64 in New York City. Yes, you heard right. Nelson Mandela has a clothing line. Wouldn’t that be the most natural thing to do after turning 94 and being a world-renowned peacekeeper? Mandela’s clothing line premiered in South Africa in early 2011 but is just now getting its American launch. The label (pronounced four, double six, six four) gets its name from Mandela’s former prisoner number (prisoner 466 in 1964). After all, he spent 27 years in prison for leading an armed anti-apartheid campaign before becoming South Africa’s president from 1994 to 1999. The collection, for men, women and children, is available at 46664fashion.com, as well as select store. Supporting 466/64 means helping to create jobs in South Africa’s textile industry.
