Although Toronto Fashion Week is well underway, editors and fashion elite are still talking about the opening show by Lucian Matis. The moody ball gowns, intricate details and plethora of feathers left us wishing for a fancy black tie party to attend. These gowns are every girl’s dream. Real Style Network had the pleasure of speaking with Lucian, the genius behind this breathtaking collection.
Real Style Network: Why did you choose to show here at the Royal York instead of under the tents?
Lucian Matis: Because I wanted to make more of a dramatic show. The pieces are so dramatic and intense, so I wanted a surrounding to match that and the ballroom here is gorgeous.
Real Style Network: How would you describe your Fall 2012 collection?
Lucian Matis: I would describe it as very elegant and dark, it’s got a lot of laciness- we created a lot of handmade laces so all of that you will see, all of the linearity is all hand done. It’s quite laborious and intensive but we had an amazing time creating it.
Real Style Network: What was your inspiration this season?
Lucian Matis: The linearity in nature; it was all about lines and nature, we used some of the feathers that tie in beautifully with all of the pieces. I didn’t want to use any bold colours, just black and the teal and some gray here and there if we needed some accents. The rest is all very dark and heavy.
Real Style Network: What kind of woman do you see wearing these clothes?
Lucian Matis: Definitely someone very sophisticated.
