Early this morning fashion’s most elite gathered in Paris for what are always the most luxurious shows of the year during Haute Couture Fashion Week. Top fashion houses Versace and Dior kicked off the fashion shows. If you couldn’t be there to catch the action in person, we have gathered the highlights from the shows.
After an eight-year hiatus from couture, Versace started the week. Hollywood’s top fashionistas including Diane Kruger and Cameron Diaz were among the crowd excited to see what Donatella would offer. She delivered a line of sexy, body-hugging dresses made to accentuate the curves in all lengths and colours. The show started with an array of sparkling silver dresses with bold shoulders, strapless, and structured styles. A variety of brightly coloured looks followed with a neon yellow strapless romper and lime green floor length gowns with plastic and metal detailing. These are looks not to be easily forgotten. Despite still being without a top designer, Dior motored ahead to debut a ladylike couture collection that was to die for. Led by Bill Gaytten, who previously worked under Galliano, the house showed that maybe they don’t need a big name designer to create gorgeous garments. The couture collection had a vintage feel to it with retro full-skirted organza dresses that would be right at home on the set of Mad Men. Straight-cut sheathes with elbow length gloves and pencil skirts offered the feel of retro work wear. Extravagant gowns with huge pleated and layered skirts in soft black and white and red ended the show in style. Watch the fashion show here:
