Calvin Klein Ralph Lauren Marc Jacobs
Three of the top American fashion designer showed their Spring collections during New York Fashion Week to much anticipation. See the shows from Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Marc Jacobs below.
Calvin Klein
Calvin Klein’s simplistic minimalism was continued into Spring with lighter touch for the season. The garments were mostly in soft shades of silver, nude, yellow and black. Silk dresses in silks and lace ruled the runway giving the looks a lingerie inspired feel. They were feminine without being overly sexy as the hemlines fell below the knee. Jackets were either short, cropped and fitted or longer suit style coats falling below the knee. There were a few sheer pieces revealing the Calvin Klein undergarments beneath. Ralph Lauren
Ralph Lauren stepped back in time for Spring to bring us fashion from the 20’s, circa The Great Gatsby. Lauren did so in a very pale colour palette of pastel pinks, blues, greens, peach, silver and a lot of white. There were feminine day looks with wide leg silk pants, silk blouses, floral skirts and dresses. As well there was a play on menswear with very sharp three piece suits with pants and short styles. As you would expect from the 20’s there is feather adornments with large feather collars on jackets, feather scarves. Many critics were fawning over the evening wear as Lauren offered long silk floral dresses, intricately beaded gowns, evening suits, feather skirts and all of the long body hugging silk gowns you could want. Marc Jacobs
All eyes are on Marc Jacobs amidst the word he may take his skills to Dior soon. For Spring he also took on retro fashion of the 20’s celebrating flapper style. There was a lot of fringe on Jacobs’ runway in the form of boxy fringe dresses, fringe hems and vests of all colours. Jacobs made the 20’s different by wrapping the models in clear plastic in the form of skirts. He also added a boxed structured menswear looks and jackets. Draped and ruffled skirts and dresses appeared along with leather skirts and bold gingham prints. See Jacobs’ take on 20’s fashion here:
