With London Fashion Week officially closing today and Milan opening, the attendance of the smaller fashion event is being threatened by larger shows encroaching on their timing. Even though hot fashion shows like Burberry and Erdem headline the week and London becoming a new fashion hot spot, London Fashion Week seems to be shrinking.
Of all the major fashion week’s, London is already the smallest. Now other shows, including Marc Jacobs and the opening of Milan Fashion Week, are making their time slot even smaller. Press and top models can not attend the London shows when bigger names are calling.
While no one is blaming anyone for the issue, if London Fashion Week wants to grow it needs the models and full support of the industry. As British designers are just starting to make waves in the industry, this is the time for London Fashion Week to flourish not flounder. The Telegraph is actually saying that the week is “in chaos” with models being pulled from shows to go to Milan. Models were pulled from shows for Todd Lynn, Erdem and Temperley just to name a few.
Some are suggesting putting space of even just a day between these weeks to allow for travel and extra time for models. What do you think the solution is?
