This past weekend, fashion elite travelled to London Fashion Week to partake in the Fall/Winter 2011 shows of Britain’s top designers. Here is a look at some of the shows from London:
In the biggest show during London Fashion Week (it was streamed to a screen in Piccadilly Circus and online to over 150 countries), Christopher Bailey showed a 60′s inspired line for Burberry Prorsum’s fall collection. This colourful line showed the classic Burberry trench and pea coat in a variety of styles and shades. Coats were cropped, wide sleeved, military influenced, and in fur. Trousers came in either flared or skinny versions. The brightly coloured line made sure to match all of the coats and handbags in the same colours. See the full Burberry show here:
Canadian designer Erdem took a dark turn in his fall line inspired by the idea of an artist’s wife who creates clothing out of torn canvasses. There was a lot of black in the blue, green and red watercolour prints that created the looks. Erdem mixed up fabrics combining tweed and lace to create one dress. The outfits themselves ranged from sundresses to suits, sheath and draped cocktail dresses, trenchcoats and long gowns. See photos from the Erdem fashion show here.
Fellow Canadian, Mark Fast, showed his fall line this weekend in London as well. Fast attempted to expand upon his trademark knitwear by adding something different and new. He used a new technique to build volume in his garments by adding layer upon layer of knits. Coats and dresses have thick skirts and bold shoulders thanks to his new forms. Fast also added leather to his collection in the form of mini dresses, jumpsuits and loose jackets. As always, Mark Fast’s knitwear was sexy and revealing in the short dresses with well placed peepholes. The line was mainly black, white and red. See the finale of the Mark Fast fall show here:
