FASHION NEWS ROUNDUP: Marc Jacobs, Hermes & Diane Von Furstenberg

Marc Jacobs, Victoria BeckhamMarc Jacobs made fashion news headlines by saying he didn’t want celebrities at his New York Fashion Week show. At a time when big celebrities like Rihanna are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to sit in the front row, his comments are quite honest. He told the New York Post: We used to have all the celebrities and people there, and I think that at that moment in time, that’s what people loved. It generated so much press and at a certain point it was like, ‘Did anybody actually watch the show?’ We will have to wait for his live stream to see if he followed through.

Last week, Coach announced they were opening a men’s only store. This week Hermes opens their first men’s only store in New York City. According to StyleList, Hermes sells approximately the same amount of men’s and women’s products. The new Hermes store is across the street from the flagship Madison Avenue Hermes store. They are using the extra space in the flagship store to expand their women’s and home products.

Fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg has created her own award. The DVF Awards will recognize women who have had a positive impact on women around the world. The award will be given out on March 13th at the United Nations. Fab Sugar reports that each winner will receive $50,000 to continue their work.

Way to go to both Marc Jacobs & DVF. The fashion should be what matters not what celebs show up to your show. Recognizing women who have had a positive impact is fantastic, I hope more designers use their recognition and $$ to help others.
