“Mr Ungaro has his views, he can keep them. I have no comment,” so says Mounir Moufarrige, CEO of Ungaro in response to harsh criticism by Emanuel Ungaro to Moufarrige choice of artistic advisor, Lindsay Lohan and her fashion debut for Ungaro.
Reuteurs reports that the retired founder Emanuel Ungaro, who stepped down from Ungaro a few years was quoted by media as saying the Ungaro collection with Lindsay Lohan acting as an advisor, was a “disaster.” As we have reported previously, Lindsay Lohan received very poor reviews of her intitial collection Ungaro debut at Paris Fashion week.
“Moufarrige went on to say “Yes (she’s staying on), she has a job to do,”
“The criticism was harsh. I am sure we can do better in the collection to be honest but I think it was harsh … But it did sell well,” Moufarrige said.
He added that future Ungaro collections needed to be “more tight, more identity driven.”
He said Britain’s upmarket Harvey Nichols and Harrods as well as New York’s Bloomingdales and Japanese stores were among those who had shown interest.”
Well what do you know, the old adage holds: publicity is publicity. Besides this is prepping up for a great potential comeback with a new collection. Let’s be honest here, how much input does Lindsay Lohan really have? The Ungaro fashion line is really being designed by a professional designer Estrella Archs. Our bet is the fall collection will be an amazing one. Moufarrige had shocked the fashion world once before when he replaced Karl Lagerfeld with the then 25 year old Stella McCartney for Chloe and it all worked out quite well. With Lindsay Lohan as a prop generating the buzz that he wanted, Moufarrige might get the last laugh after all. Let’s wait and see what happens in the Spring shows.
