When we first heard that Guy Laliberte the founder of Cirque du Soleil ,was paying 35 million dollars to be the first Canadian space tourist, our reaction was ” What a wasteful indulgence. There are people in the world who can really use the money!” Laliberte known as a maverick businessman, French Canadian success story and Canada’s version of Richard Branson is not without controversy. He is currently embroiled in a bitter divorce battle and was the subject of an article about sex and drugs fuelled parties he threw for Cirque de Soleil in Macleans magazine. ( Cirque de Soleil has refuted the allegations).
Yet, when we learned that the major goal of the mission was to organize a series of worldwide concerts in order to create awareness for the need for clean water and water preservation for a charity Laliberte created,we could not be more proud!
The concerts are being streamed LIVE RIGHT NOW and the outpouring of pride for a fellow Canadian is really tremendous. So many Canadians are posting on the live feed of their pride of being Canadian and for Guy as a World citizen and as a Canadian!
Way to go Guy Laliberte!
