Throughout the season we saw an  incredible transformation in this versatile football player. North America fell in love with their favorite athlete and kept voting for him week after week. His win is sure to garner some controversy as Katherine Jenkins, the pretty Brit, was favoured to win the competition. As we have seen on the previous seasons that it wasn’t often the best dancers who took the mirror ball trophy, but rather the ones who got the most votes. Last season the much loved Kirstie Alley lost out by a hair and it looks like the same thing has happened again. Katherine Jenkins was the favorite to win this season but Donald’s fans have outvoted hers.

In all fairness Donald Driver is a wonderful performer and was worthy of the win. It was a stunning upset though…

7-year-old rapper Mir Money was adorable, even if he did get 2 strikes. Watching kids on the show is so fun, but also hard. His tears were heartbreaking. They even softened Howard to rush on stage for a big hug. Mir still couldn’t win over all three judges to put him through.

On the flip side, 77 year old rapper Burton Crane somehow made it through to Vegas with his catchy ‘Whatcha Gonna Do?’ and a Casio keyboard. While it was nice and funny of them to put him through, I hope he doesn’t go any further. Once was enough for this old-timer, unless he adds Nick Cannon to his group to do background beats for every tune.

One rap group that did have our love was Wordsmith, The Illest! It’s shocking that this group containing not only a rapper but a singer, violins and drums. Their talent will have America on their edge of their seats. Now we have to wait and see if they can keep up the high standards. If they are consistent this band is going to go a really long way. They are unique and talented!

Olate Dogs are one to watch! These are some amazing dogs. This father son team have trained their group of pups to dance, move and twirl their way into your heart. This isn’t just another cheesy dog show. This is talent! The only thing better than the back flipping dogs was Sharon going wild for these sweet little puppies. We couldn’t help, but agree that we want these little pooches for our own!

New York also had a lot of talented comedians. Ventriloquist John won over the judges by making fun of them. He was overwhelmed by all of the praise. I wasn’t as impressed, but maybe he can stand out later. Stand up act Tom Cotter did have us laughing with his quick delivery. Comedians don’t do so well on the show, so we aren’t placing our bets with either of these two acts until we see how they fare.

Dancers are always great on the show and street dancer Stepz knocked our socks off. He moved in ways that we have never seen before. It was so original. His talent had the judges torn because he is one solo dancer. Howard didn’t believe that it could be turned into a large scale Vegas act with just this one guy. Luckily Sharon saved him and sent him on to prove he is a Vegas act.

For the grand finale, The Savage Men are the one all of our single ladies should be googling today for a hunky strip tease. They didn’t win over the judges to get to Vegas, but it was fun while it lasted. Howard joined them for his own sexy dance was the perfect end to the New York auditions. In a hilarious new Funny Or Die video, Selena Gomez and actor Nick Kroll channel their inner ’50 Shades of Grey’ book characters for their version, ’50 Shades of Blue.’

In ’50 Shades of Blue’ Selena Gomez does her best impression of Anastasia Steele, ’50 Shades of Greys’ leading lady. She spends the length of the video falling in love with Carl Blue, who isn’t quite as attactive as the ’50 Shades of Grey’ leading man Christian Grey. Carl simply paints her wall and leaves her behind, leaving Selena longing for her new love.

Emily had her first one on one date with Ryan, the handsome coach and they went on an uber glamourous date- straight to her home to bake cookies for her daughter’s soccer team practice. Emily came in her soccer mom outfit, jeans and a loose long sleeve T-shirt, picked up Ryan in her suv and home they went. The evening portion of the date was a little more glamorous when they went to a fine restaurant and were serenaded by a country music band. All while lots of Charlotte’s citizens looked on and took videos. Ryan received a rose.

Next came the group date where the men got to perform with Miss Piggy and Kermit to raise money for charity. Once again much of Charlotte came out to see the bachelors ( is this going to be a group decision on who wins the final rose?). Jef, the shy skate boarding entrepreneur, got the rose.

Last one on one date was with Joe, a handsome easy going guy. Emily even thought he looked like Mathew McConaughey, but alas Emily’s fears that he wasn’t ready, ended up with Joe leaving the show right after the date.

The Bachelorette ended with Emily sending Kyle and Aaron home as well.  If the previews are true, the next episode will see some romance with the race driver.

Terminator 3 actor Nick Stahl has resurfaced after being missing for a week and has apparently checked himself into rehab.  He contacted his family after a search by the LAPD to say that he was checking himself into an undisclosed rehab center on Saturday. His wife, Rose Stahl, said that she is “elated” that he has return and is getting help.

Founding Bee Gees member Robin Gibb has passed away at the age of 62 after a long battle with cancer. The loss comes at a shocking time as it is so soon to fellow disco diva Donna Summers. Condolences were offered by many at the Billboard Music Awards.

Mark Zuckerberg made 100 billion dollars when Facebook went public and this week he got married to his college girlfriend Priscilla Chan. It was a surprise wedding for guests who thought they were being invited to a surprise party for Chan’s college graduation and Mark’s birthday. Apparently they had been planning the surprise wedding for some months. The ceremony was held at their California home where they had food from their favourite resturants, Palo Alto Sol and Fuki Sushi. Congrats to the new couple!

On Sunday May 27th Showcase is premiering their latest TV series called Continuum.  The series follows Kiera Cameron (played by Rachel Nichols), a futuristic police officer who finds herself transported from 2077 to 2012 with a group of fanatical terrorists. Not only does she have to adapt to the past, but she also aligns herself with the local BC police force and a teenage tech genius to help bring in the terrorists.

The first episode of Continuum sets up the entire series.  From the introduction of Kiera who is both a mother and a wife, to the trial of the terrorists, and the eventual trip to the past.  Because it is a pilot episode most of the focus is on developing Kiera’s character, and her meeting allies in the past.  Of her allies, Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen) is by far the most interesting.  He’s a technical wizard who has a hand in developing the technology that helps shape the future.  The local cop Kiera befriends is Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster) and he seem to be just a stereotypical cop in a stereotypical cop drama.

Based on the first episode Continuum has a ways to go if they hope to attract the attention of the sci-fi watching group.  Adding more special effects or futuristic weapons would be a good start.  The series also needs to decide what it wants to be.  Right now it skirts the middle ground between a science fiction show and a cop drama, and by doing so it won’t draw attention from fans of either.   Rachel Nichols does a great job playing the lead role, but her character needs to be given more personality because at the moment she doesn’t seem too effected by the fact that she’s gone over 60 years back in time.  They also need to give more background as to what this group of terrorists are looking to change.  Right now it doesn’t seem like they have much of a cause.  Perhaps having flashbacks that show the future as it is would be a good start.

Continuum premieres on Sunday, May 27 at 9pm, on Showcase.

Not surprisingly, Adele left the award show with 12 awards. Her album ’21′ was a big hit this year, so that impressive award haul was expected. LMFAO gets a second place mention for awards, nabbing 6 awards including Top Duo/Group.

Some of the fun awards like ‘Top New Artists’ were also handed out at the show, and this years winner was Wiz Khalifa. Coldplay, Little Wayne and Lady Gaga also had their names called from the stage, with Coldplay and Wayne getting 4, and Gaga getting 2 awards. But Justin Bieber wasn’t about to be left out, getting the ‘Top Social Artist’ award.

This week, Conan O’Brien visited late night host David Letterman for the first time in 13 years. While on the show, David quickly jumped to the topic of Jay Leno. Two years ago Jay Leno took back the Tonight Show spot from Conan, leaving Conan to start his on show with TBS.

Conan and David joked about their rival nightly tv host, mocking his well-known high voice and love of classic cars. The video is a hilarious moment of bonding for David and Conan, which probably leaves fans of Jay Leno a little unhappy. Watch some of this funny meeting between David and Conan here, it’s worth the three minutes, unless you love Jay.

The 2012 Cannes Film Festival began on May 16th, and as is the case every year certain movies are causing a lot of stir. Here’s a list of Cannes most buzzed about movies and what you can look forward to when they get wide release.

Cosmopolis- This movie has Robert Pattinson in it. I feel like that’s enough reason as to why this Cannes 2012 selection is being so widely talked about. The movie is based on the 2003 book of the same name and has Robert’s character Eric Packer facing Manhattan and a cast of characters that includes Jay Baruchel, Paul Giamatti and Juliette Binoche.

On The Road- Not to be outdone by her boyfriend Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart has a movie at Cannes as well. On The Road is based on the well known Jack Kerouac novel with the same name and has a star-studded lineup that includes Garrett Hedlund, Kirsten Dunst, and Amy Adams.

Killing Them Softly- Brad Pitt. That name is enough to get any movie some buzz, but that’s not to say this movie wont be worth the hype. Killing Them Softly has Brad playing a mob enforcer who spends the movie investigating a heist and also stars Ray Liotta and James Gandolfini, to name a few.

Moonrise Kingdom- This movie is setting itself up to be what fans know and love about a Wes Anderson movie, with a familiar cast including Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray and Tilda Swinton. It’s sure to be as well made as it is quirky.

The Paperboy- Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey, Nicole Kidman and John Cusack all lend their star power to this movie about a man who returns to his hometown to help his reporter brother find the truth about a man on death row. 

Mud- Matthew McConaughey’s second selection at this years Cannes festival also stars Reese Witherspoon. Matthew plays Mud, a man on the run from bounty hunters who is trying to get to his love Juniper (Reese.)

Which Cannes 2012 selection are you most excited about?

Who knew someone could be more powerful than Oprah? After placing 50th last year, Jennifer Lopez was just named the most powerful celebrity on the Forbes Celebrity 100. This title means she beat out names like Oprah, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.

Not easy, but since Jennifer Lopez joined American Idol she has taken advantage of the spotlight. The Forbes list takes into account not only the celebrities earning but their exposure, and that’s where Jennifer Lopez really wins. The editors of the Forbes list note some of her media accomplishments include more than 23,000 press mentions and 46 major magazine covers. Pretty impressive since he shares the top 3 with Oprah in 2nd, who made $165 million this year, and Justin Bieber in 3rd, which is surprising given the role exposure plays on rankings. Don’t feel too bad for Justin though, he made $55 million last year.
