2012 was quite the year for epic blockbusters, and by the looks of things 2013 is going to be much more of the same. Just in time for the new year, we’ve compiled our list of our most anticipated movies of 2013.
Star Trek Into Darkness. (May 17th) J.J. Abrams sure knows how to build anticipation. First, instead of heading right back to filming a sequel after his 2008 Star Trek reboot was successful he waited 4 years, then he keeps the plot so secretive that nobody even know who the villain of the movie is. Sure there are a lot of guesses, the top being that Khan is making his first appearance in the new universe, but no official word has been given. Not even IMBD knows anything for sure. Waiting until May is going to be hard.
Man of Steel. (June 14th) The Batman reboot was a huge success, so everyone knew it was only a matter of time before Warner Brothers tried doing the same with their other flagship hero Superman. This time around it’s not the 80′s movie love affair that Bryan Singer released a few years back, but instead a completely new and darker vision. Christopher Nolan produced this Zack Snyder flick, and even helped Batman scribe David Goyer come up with the story for it. It looks like we’re on the verge of launching yet another successful superhero franchise.
A Good Day To Die Hard. (February 14th) What better way to say I love you on Valentine’s Day then by taking your loved one to see a new Die Hard movie. Let’s hope it’s not another PG attempt, and that we don’t have to wait for the DVD to see the unrated version to be able to hear Bruce Willis utter his classic Yippee Ki-Yay line uncensored.
World War Z. (June 21st) This Brad Pitt zombie pick based on the book by the same name has long been anticipated, and with the release date pushed back from this year one has to wonder if it will be as good as it is expected to be. Still, with all the love zombies are getting these days it’s sure to be a hit.
The World’s End. (October 25th) Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright are reunited for this end of the world comedy. If this movie is near as good as their previous efforts like Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, it’s sure to be a blast.
Oz The Great and Powerful. (March 8th) Instead of doing yet another Spider-man movie, Sam Raimi decided to bring us back to Oz, this time to learn how the wizard came to be there. The visuals from this one look amazing, and with the large cast, including James Franco, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz this one could be the surprise hit of the spring.
The Hunger Games – Catching Fire. (November 22nd) The first Hunger Games only came out this year, and it was as big of a success as they hoped it would be. Now the franchise moves into the blockbuster time of the year. Jennifer Lawrence returns as Katniss Everdeen as she finds herself once again participating in the annual hunger games and fighting for her survival.
Iron Man 3. (May 3rd) Now that the Avengers has come out, it will be interesting to see if the individual movies will continue their run of success, or if people will only want to see the superheroes all together at the same time. Iron Man 3 looks like it might just deliver enough explosions and have a strong enough of a story to still hold the attention of the crowd. Jon Favreau may have handed over the directorial reigns to Shane Black, but he still appears in the flick, along with Ben Kingsley who makes his first appearance as the villain The Mandarin.
