Top 6 Tim Burton Movies

Tim Burton is by far one of the quirkiest directors in all of Hollywood, and this weekend sees the release of his latest flick Frankenweenie.  For those who have followed Burton’s career they will know this movie is a remake of a short film he did back in 1984 that was directly responsible for not only getting him fired from Disney, but also for getting him his first gig directing a big screen picture.  In honour of all things Tim burton, we bring you our picks for his top 6 movies.

Beetlejuice is a perfect Hallowe’en movie, and it made The Banana Boat Song a hit all over again.  If you haven’t seen it, it’s about a young couple who die and return as ghosts.  They are living together fine in eternal bliss until an obnoxious family moves into their home, so they hire a bio-exorcist to get rid of them.

Have you ever known someone to tell a fish story?  Big Fish is a heartwarming tale about such stories.  When a son discovers his father is dying, he returns home to weed through the myths his father has told him throughout his life to find the truth.  It’s a heartwarming story that will bring a smile to your face.

Sleepy Hallow is another movie perfect for Halloween.  Based on the story by Washington Irving, it tells the tale of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman.  It’s one of many collaborations between Burton and Johnny Depp.

Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure brought not only Pee-Wee Herman to the big screen, but was the movie responsible for giving us Tim Burton as well.  It’s the story of Pee-Wee’s journey across America as he searches for his stolen bicycle.  It’s dumb, silly fun that will keep you laughing for days.

If you enjoy bad movies from the the 50′s, 60′s and 70′s, odds are you’ve heard of Ed Wood.  This mostly factual biopic gives you a good understanding of just how strange of a man he was.

And last, but not least, is the movie most people probably remember being a Tim Burton movie, Edward Scissorhands.  A Frankenstein like story has a scientist create a man, only to die before completing his hands.  The forces the young man to live with scissors for hands, and when he’s brought out of isolation into a small community he finds he is at first loved, then hated for being different.
