Are Jessica Simpson’s Parents Divorcing Because Joe Simpson Is Gay?

Jessica Simpson’s parents are getting divorced and gossip blogger Perez Hilton is reporting that the couple are ending their marriage because Joe Simpson is gay. Wow! If that’s true, then it will definitely be the biggest drama to hit the Simpson family yet. They’ve managed to make it through both Ashlee’s divorce from Pete Wentz and Jessica’s divorce from Nick Lachey as well as Jessica’s much publicized weight gain and Ashlee’s controversial lip synching catastrophe on Saturday Night Live.

Given that the Simpson family have always been known for their rather conservative beliefs, it would definitely be a shocker if it turned out that the pastor-turned-manager was actually gay. After all, isn’t Joe Simpson the same guy who wanted his daughters to save themselves for marriage (Jessica even did… and then sadly her marriage didn’t work out)? Joe famously gave Jessica a purity ring when she was 12 years old to remind her to stay a virgin until she got married.

Tina Simpson filed divorce papers in Texas at the end of September, citing “discord or conflict of personalities” as her reason for the split. Perez Hilton thinks the issue might be a little more complicated than that, however. The blogger quoted one of his sources as saying: “Joe got the family together about two months ago and came out of the closet. He told them that he’d tried to continue in his marriage to Tina, but he couldn’t go on any longer and deny the fact that he had these feelings for men. Joe said it wasn’t fair to her, and it wasn’t fair to him.”

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. If it is true, then we’re happy for Joe that he finally feels comfortable enough to be open about who he is!
