This September thousands of kids will make their first trip to college, and even more will be returning as they get closer to graduating. In honor of their journeys we present to you our top college movies of all time.
Good Will Hunting – As one of our favourite movies this film shows a different side of college. Matt Damon is the genius Will, who is down on his luck and a janitor at the local college instead of a student. He gets noticed by a professor though who wants to give him a chance to change his luck and future. The only problem is Will isn’t so sure he wants to change his life. This movie won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, and brought both Matt Damon and Ben Affleck to everyone’s attention.
21 - When you go to college, you expect things to get a bit crazy, but nothing like what happens to math wiz Ben Campbell, played by Jim Sturgess, in this film. As a poor college student, he needs some extra money, so he joins an afterschool group that plays blackjack to cheat the casinos out of big bucks. Based on a true story, this movie also stars Kevin Spacey as the professor who leads his students astray.
Van Wilder – Before he was the star he was today, Ryan Reynolds was best known as Van Wilder, the most popular kid in college, yet one who is afraid to graduate. The plot of this one revolves around Van Wilder falling in love, and deciding to graduate in order to impress the girl of his dreams.
Legally Blonde - Reese Witherspoon shows us that just because you are pretty and love fashion doesn’t mean you can’t be head of your Harvard class as well. Fall in love with Reese all over again as she teaches the academics a lesson.
Back To School – Rodney Dangerfield may have starred in a few movies over his career, but only two are worth watching. Back To School is about a father who decides to get a college degree in order to help motivate his discouraged son. The funniest bit in this movie is when Rodney and Sam Kinison get into it over the ethics of the Vietnam war.
National Lampoon’s Animal House – This is perhaps the ultimate college flick of all time. No list of college movies would be complete without Jim Belushi’s crazy pranks and antics in the Delta house. A must see for everyone, school bound or not.
