French magazine Closer published topless photos of Kate Middleton sunbathing today under the headline “Oh my God!” Closer, which is a weekly roundup of celebrity gossip similar to Us Weekly or InTouch in America, ran the 5-page feature on Kate who was allegedly photographed while suntanning on the balcony of a 19th century hunting lodge in the south of France with Prince William. Apparently, Kate didn’t know there were paparazzi lurking nearby as she took her bikini top off and lowered her bikini bottom to even out her tanline and have Prince William help her apply sunscreen. Websites like entertainment hub Gawker have already published the photos online here.

Kate Middleton and Prince William are currently touring southeast Asia and just found out about the scandalous Closer feature. The Royal family is indeed taking legal action. A rep from the palace said: “Legal proceedings for breach of privacy have been commenced today in France.”

The photos were apparently taken while Prince William and Kate were vacationing at the Chateau d’Autet near Aix-en-Provence. We imagine Kate, who’s incredibly private and always ladylike, is devastated by this scandal. Although Prince Harry always seems to bounce back from his press scandals, Kate is always on her best behaviour and really wasn’t doing anything she should be ashamed of when the photographers intruded on her privacy. Haven’t we all sunbathed without our bikini tops when we thought we had total privacy? We hope this doesn’t put too much of a damper on the Duchess’s tour of Asia.
