Carly Rae Jepsen – Kiss Review

Carly Rae Jepsen scored big with her smash summer hit, “Call Me Maybe”, but now that her full length album has dropped it’s time to see if her success can stand the test of time. Her new album, Kiss, is trying to win you over with sugary sweet pop confections for the young and young at heart.

Before it even hits store Kiss already has 3 chart topping singles in Canada, “Call Me Maybe”, “Good Time” and “Curiosity”. It’s the rest of the album that is still up for grabs and is really a lot more of the same. If you liked her smash hit and couldn’t stop singing it, then you will probably be pleasantly surprised. Songs like “Tiny Little Bows” have that same unrelenting pop beat that gets under your skin and into your bones.

While the album is a little one note, that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Carly Rae lets you have a little bit of all natural dance in your living room fun. She’s not taking herself too seriously. It’s surprising this album didn’t come out in the summer because it’s the perfect crank at the beach set of songs.

Girls are going to swoon over her duet with Justin Bieber in “Beautiful” and the attention is well deserved as it is probably one of the best non-single tracks on the album.

For Kiss, we are going to let Carly Rae get away with sticking to her formula because it worked so well. The next time around though she will need to show us her range to keep us coming back for more.
