Gossip mills are already speculating who will play Anastasia Steele in the upcoming film adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey. As we mentioned earlier, Emma Watson is the alleged frontrunner, with actresses like Kristen Stewart and Ashley Greene also being mentioned as possible big screen versions of Ana. But who exactly would best embody the 22-year-old virginal Anastasia who goes from good girl to bad over the course of her encounters with Christian Grey? Here are the top 5 actresses who we think should play Anastasia Steele in 50 Shades of Grey.

Kristen Stewart
We’ve learned a lot we didn’t know about Kristen Stewart over the last couple of weeks. If her recent philanderings with a much older man, 42-year-old director Ruperts Sanders, are any indication of what Kristen is capable of off screen, then we definitely believe she could play the part of a good girl gone bad on screen. Despite her longterm association with the Twilight series, Kristen has always maintained efforts to go after darker, more challenging roles as actress, such as her upcoming role in the big screen version of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road.

Emma Watson
Just like Kristen will always be associated with Twilight, Emma Watson is always going to have a hard time distancing herself from the Harry Potter series. What better way to do it than with 50 Shades of Grey? Emma’s upcoming move The Perks of Being a Wallflower, about a group of high school outsides, definitely showcases a more daring side of the actress. In the clips we’ve seen thus far, Emma’s character takes a turn burlesque dancing in a revealing corset despite her young age.

Ellen Page’s breakthrough performance in Juno makes us believe she’d be perfect for the part of Anastasia Steele. She’s mastered the art of playing a good girl who finds herself in over her head when she tries to be more adventurous with the opposite sex. It doesn’t hurt that Ellen also reminds us of a young Maggie Gyllenhaal. Remember Maggie is The Secretary? Yeah, so do we.
Amanda Seyfried
Amanda Seyfried might just be one of the most under-rated actresses in young Hollywood. Sure, she does fun flicks like Mamma Mia! and Red Riding Hood, but she’s also starred in some of the most intense love scenes we’ve ever seen in films like Jennifer’s Body and Atom Egoyan’s Chloe (with Julianne Moore, no less). She recently finished filming Lovelace, the biopic about porn star Linda Lovelace, in the lead role. If she can handle playing that character, we’re pretty sure Anastasia Steele would be a breeze for Amanda.
Jennifer Lawrence
Before she played Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, Jennifer Lawrence had already received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her role in Winter’s Bone. Not only is the 22-year-old actress the exact same age as Anastasia, we also have a feeling Jennifer wants to beat Kristen Stewart out for a role. Stewart apparently beat out Lawrence for the lead role in the upcoming intense drama Lie Down in Darkness. With Stewart already tied to a dark role, maybe she should leave 50 Shades of Grey to Jennifer?

LOL!!…Kristen Stewart DID NOT beat Jennifer Lawrence out of Lie Down in Darkness(by the way, the role isn’t even Stewart’s to begin with…the film has no financing!no official offers have been made). (LOL). Stewart’s PR team spun that tale to get an idea on whether or not people would want to see Stewart in that (or ANY role)..everybody with access to the internet knows that!. Jennifer Lawrence didn’t even READ for Lie Down in Darkness (because you know, she’s busy with The Hunger Games, X-Men, for the next year and then has The Glass Castle to film. I highly doubt Lawrence would want 50 Shades, she’s a serious actress…Oscar nominated actress, who’s now receiving Oscar buzz for Silver Linings Playbook. LOL…Stewart should beg for 50 Shades she’ll need the work when the whole Twilight Crap is over !.
I think Julia Taylor Ross (long hair) should play Anastasia Steele and Charlie Hunnun should play Christian Grey in 50 Shades of Grey
Alexandra Daddario should play this role. She is a beautiful young women.
Rooney Mara gets my vote. She can play the weet young innocent or the broding sexpot.
