Good-bye, J-Lo! Hello, Mariah! Just last week, Nick Cannon opened his mouth a little too soon to say that American Idol couldn’t afford to pay his wife, Mariah Carey, to be a judge. Well, it turns out they can! Mariah will allegedly make $18 million as a judge on the show’s 12th season, making her the highest paid judge on a reality TV show. The show’s still searching for a replacement for Steven Tyler, but it looks like they’ve already got a new diva on board, and we couldn’t be more excited for Mariah to join Randy Jackson in the judges’ seats. Who do you think should be the third judge added to the line-up?
“As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol,” said Mariah in a statement today. “I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, ‘Triumphant,’ which will be out early next month. I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon.”
