2012 Emmy Awards Nominations

Who would have thought, a decade ago, that we’d be more excited to find out who was in the running for the Emmys than for the Oscars? TV is better than ever, and the Emmy nominations for 2012 are proof of that.

This could be a record-breaking year for Mad Men. The series has already won four best drama series trophies, tying it with Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law and The West Wing. Mad Men‘s fifth nomination today means that it could go on to break records at the 2012 Emmys. But the hit AMC show has some serious competition. It’s up against the fanatical obsession that is Game Of Thrones, as well the surprising hit British drama, Downton Abbey (You know, the show where nothing happens and yet EVERYTHING happens! We adore Lady Mary.)

So who got a nod and who got snubbed? We are psyched that exceptionally talented and hilarious newcomer Lena Dunham, the star and creator of Girls, got a nod for both her show and her own performance as a lead actress in a comedy series. We’re also thrilled to see that Kristen Wiig got a nod for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Saturday Night Live, especially since this was her farewell year on the legendary show. And we hope to see Michelle Dockery, aka Lady Mary Crawley, take home the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Downtown Abbey on September 23rd. And, of course, we’ll be rooting for Jon Hamm, who was once again nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series. Check out the rest of the list of Emmy Awards nominations below:
